Tom, Yeah, I know what you mean, that kind of talk does get tiresome. Believe me the last thing I want to do is advocate, (or buy with my own money), a Mac for home. I never have to run spreadsheets, so I don't know what to say about Analyze…
Mike, Thanx for the suggestion re: a stack statement in my shell-startup in the s: directory. What I ended up doing was adding a " + Stack 10000 " statement to the line that says " NewShell … " in my startupII script. Seems to be working fine. After so…

Derek, That's all I got, too. Thinking about getting the Vidia guide to PPage reference though. Jan

MIFONT and MAC FONTS
Message #13990
Mike, I just got MIfont this week, and it's really slick. Extensive manual (maybe too verbose?) Utilitarian interface, but more than adequate for the task. Seems like an extremely comprehensive and useful program. Haven't actually done any conversions yet and probably won't till next week. When I can bring an…

#Buggy PPage 2.0A/bitmaps
Message #13988
Mike, Received a mesage on my phone from 'Lyn' at GoldDisk. She said to set my stack to 10000, before running PPage. I start PPage from the Shell, so people who start from the WB icon probably would not have had this problem. I tried it tonight and it works…
#Imagine 1.0 Freezing
Message #9327
Howdy, Still having trouble with Imagine 1.0 on my A2630 lots'a ram, 2000. Can't get ANY image I create in doing the tutorial to render. I get "initializing"; "0.00% complete" then everything freezes up. Left a message to Impulse in AmigaVendor earlier this week, but no answer. Any ideas? Jan
1.0 Rendering Freeze Up
Message #20369
Howdy, I'm trying the tutorial for Imagine 1.0. Get thru it all, go to MAKE in the Project Editor and, b-boom, Freeze UP. Title bar says "Frame One Generating, 0.00% complete". Time to reboot. Imagine 1.0 (fp), A2630, 5 megs, flickerfixer, couple'a harddrives. any ideas? Jan
James, Giving the actual path specification "run dh0:prowrite/prowrite" has done the trick! Now, will adding "default tool = dh0:prowrite/prowrite" to prowrite's icon enable document icons in other directories to be double clicked and have postscript enabled? I'll try that next. Thanx for the clues. Jan
Brooks, Excuse me for butting in here. I just bought the color splitter, because I just bought a Sony F77 camcorder (great pause/freeze frame!). I get results, with the Hue and Sat knobs in the middle settings, equivalent to a Sharp flatbed scanner. Much better than filter wheels and the…
ProDraw Add'l Fonts?
Message #2835
Tom, What's the drill for getting ProDraw to utilize other CG fonts besides the ones that came with it? Thanx, Jan
ProScript Anomaly
Message #20019
James, Still at a loss as to what preconditions are necssary in order for ProWrite 3.1 to automatically invoke ProScript. I've assigned ProWite's directory ProWrite:. I've got ProScript in the same dir as ProWrite. I'm OK when I start ProWrite by double clicking its icon. I'm unable to select Postscript…
Howdy, I've been using 3.1 for some time now and it works great with my 6 week old (pre free lower paper cassette, darn it!) HPIIp with 2.5 megs and PacPage P*E cartridge. One oddity I'm experiencing is that the printer must be on and initialized and ready to go,…
ProWrite and 2500
Message #19205
James, Tonight at our AWest (San Francisco) user's group, one member said he was told by a store clerk that he couldn't use ProWrite on his stock, 3 meg 2500 HD. That it just flat out wouldn't work! I told him that was absurd, as I've never read anything anywhere…
LaserPrinters
Message #19113
Russ, Two weeks ago we got an HP IIP with 2 megs of ram and the Pacific Page Personal Edition Postscript cartridge for $1700 at the 'New Age K-Mart' (Whole Earth Access). I use it with ProPage and have so far turned out a 12 page 'Turtle Patrol' journal about…
James, Yep, ProWrite's top and bottom margins were set at .25", not the necessary .5". I just went in and changed them, checked the screen pagination and it's identical to the prinout! HOORAY! My wife's asleep now, I'll tell her tomorrow (today?), but will she ever be grateful to you…
#Corrupt ProPage Doc
Message #1817
Tom, Where's the "fixit" program for curing a corrupt ProPage 1.3 document? We saved it ok, but were unable to open it later. The office said they'd mail it weeks ago… Is it on CIS? We get the "Can't Understand String Format" dialog box, then the unbelievable "Document File is…
James, I wasn't clear. We get the postscript font printed, but we don't have a one to one correspondence of the number of lines per page printed.?! All the line endings are correct, we just get two extra lines (from the following page) printed on the preceding page. That throws…
Proportional fonts?
Message #18945
James, Any chance of ProWrite supporting WYSIWYG with proportionally spaced fonts like postscript or CG outline (ProPage) fonts? Also, I'm still getting little red speckles with ProWrite 3.1 on my 2630 accelerated 2000 with the Micrway flickerfixer. Thought that went away in 3.0? Thanx for a great WP. My wife…

Joe, At the AmiExpo in October '89the Desktop Advantage people had a booth. They were touting DTP solutions, from still-video cameras to printing color separations. They offered a $14,495 system towards this end. Don't see anything on this flyer about the Pro Res Still Video interface, though. They could be…

#Quake Video Animations
Message #98938
Howdy, As most of you know (and some of you felt!), we had a swarm of quakes this morning in the SF bay area. At 5 pm, Channel 7 KGO, featured the Amiga running a 90 sec. animation showing the aftershocks since Oct. 17th's "Little Big One" and how this…

Connection woes
Message #92929
Howdy, My modem seems to be acting up. It takes 4-5 tries to CONNECT with CIS. I reach the number (415 296 0375) I hear the high-pitched signal, but mynd eventually hangs up. What gives? Also, Iwhen I do finally CONNECT, and get through the date of last connection, it…

Zoetrope Deadhead Rif
Message #9420
A couple of S.F. Bay Areans have a cable new show called "Dead Head TV" that is cablecast nationwide to more than 20 cities. The show features thoughtful interviews with deadheads, up-to-date information about the band, reviews and highlights of recent tours, interviews with the band and "family" members, and…

#Mac-Gif
Message #132652
I'm looking for a reliable method of getting workable graphic files between the Amiga and a MacII. I'm already trying GIF from the PICS forum, but something's amiss. The setup's like this: Sharp 450 scanner using ScanPage or Laserpaint scanning software on my MacII; saving the scanned image as a…
Image Outputs
Message #109964
Hi Alton, Imageset (555 19th St. at 3rd) does file conversions of IFF pics. Call them at 626-8366. They're the only ones I know of in town, and I'm planning on tying them for the first time, soon. I just got Sculpt 3d, Animate 3d, and DigiView. Also got 4megs…
Typesetting
Message #88277
Hi, Anybody know some of the following answers? What software would allow me to have control over display letter spacing on a points and picas basis? What software would allow me to create a display block of type, then distort, stretch, curve, compress, expand, reverse, dropshadow, comstock, etc. it? Is…

Hi Jan, How do you do? (Mr.) Jan Simon here, thought I should let you know about Laser Writer Utilities by S. Anthony Studios in San Francisco. It's a program I've been using for 3-4 months now, and really like. I use it to produce pasteup galleys for a small…

You get a disk of canned utilities and a manual telling you how to create a…

Hi, Roy, Jan Simon here, how do you do? I was at the July 2 FAUG meeting and saw the video demo you were asking about. Trip Hawkins mentioned "Octree Software" and "Calaigari", but I don't know much more than that. Seems that it is a program for sending the…
