I know that vip's not supposed to handle .wk1 files, so there's no surprise there. It sounds like it handles .wks files ok, so that helps. I am worried about the space problem. I have 1.5 meg, but most people don't yet. Thanks for your input!
And I've been told there's v1.1 of transformer, supposedly to handle extra RAM correctly. It may require v1.2 kickstart/wb, which I should be trying out very shortly. My source tells me that he runs 1.25 meg in transformer having a full 640 k available to him when DOS starts up.…

xfrmr/extra ram
Message #27978
I got xfrmr (beta 1.1) today and tried it out, with 512 k and then 1.5 meg It appeared to work identically to 1.0 when used with 512k. I could not get it to work with 1.5 meg even when I switched from addmem to configmem when booting. If anyone…

Thanks. I just found out today that you even need a newer version of xfrmr then the so called 1.0 official release – 1.1 exists. I kind of suspect that CBM hasn't totally abandoned its development.

It seems that CBM may have a second version of sidecar in mind – a card version designed to go into a 100 pin expansion box, with no redundant 5.25 drives included (a lot of us already have one).

Seeing and owning is believing. I just took the plunge for a 1 meg RAM expansion with pass-thru from what we all know as Cardco. In reality, according to Ed Lippert (former president of the former Cardco) (as of today 7/21) a new company with several of the principals of…

Okimate 20 PRT:
Message #26444
I was still pleased with my oki 20 after 1 month – then the color ribbon sensor died and a month later the print head (I assume it's) the print head) faded – and no one has any spares, including Okidata. So now, I don't have a functional printer.

Message #21733
PC-ET is a product by Softeam in Florida that very shortly will do a substantialy better job of PC emulation then Transformer does – it will multitask, do color and graphics, much of this faster then xfrmr. For most of us it will be much more affordable then the Sidecar,…

PC-ET

PC-ET is still coming! I know all about sidecar, and Amy II, but given my budget you can guess what I prefer. It should be a great product and it should be reasonably ready soon (as of today, 5/29).

After a long talk today with Addison-Wesley, I think I understand what's going on. As some of you know, a few copies of the Intuition and Hardware manuals are in town (NYC) and more are on the way. However, here's the bad news. AW says that CBM hasn't delivered the…

AMIGA lives in the Canada pavilion at Expo! However, it's obvious that CBM doesn't want anyone to know it, because not a single machine is in sight anywhere – we do get some monitors with assorted slide shows and AMIGA LIVE (I think it's CBM's digitizer) for kids to play…

How slow other things will go depends on what you're doing. If I were doing a native file transmission in 1 task and list processing in another and graphics in a 3rd, something might just slow down – but at least I have the choice. PC-ET uses Intuition, etc -…

he software switches don't do anything! Typing the pcdos mode command for color doesn't do anything! There is no multitasking! Graphics don't work! Softeam (PCET) is on the way but as of 5pm 4/14/86 is not yet ready – as soon as it is I will know and let all…

Message #14592
First – '1.0' has been on most versions of xfrmr – the last usable version I've seen is numbered 3.7, with 3.8 supposedly on the way! CBM has told anyone who'l listen that xfrmr will never multitask, use color, graphics, etc. – there will be no more improvements to it.…

At the 2nd monthly meeting of Amuse in NYC in March, the CBM representative suggested rather strongly that Cherry Lane was no more, that there was a slight chance we might eventually see some form of Musicraft for sale, possibly from EA. If CL is still around or has returned,…

1. I'm sure that CBM will charge for xfrmr if it does turn into a full blown releasable product – unfortunately that may never happen. People expect much more then CBM seems able to deliver now. Maybe PCET will fit the bill, and people will pay for it. As far…

I get my info from several people at CBM – some directly, some not. The latest word is that they've chickened out, and 1. prefer to go the hardware route 2. wouldn't be too upset if PC-ET worked out 3. they have no intention of ever providing color, graphics, or…

CBM has 'allowed' those in possesion (nothing paid) to allow others to have it – this has gotten them a lot of feedback on an incredibly complex product. It's an unusual way to do things, but it's not piracy, so calm down. As far as the other 'samples' go, Musicraft…

Thanks for your message to everyone – I hope they read it and avoid getting ripped off! By the way, for whatever it's worth, the Sybex rkm manual is now very available at Barnes & Noble stores in NYC – it's much better then nothing, though we're all still desparate…
