The Abnormal Program Termination error means you are having a memory conflict of some sort. Do you get the same error when you don't load the RCPADI driver and use 3DS in its VGA modes? If no, tell us more about your hardware and what drivers you are using.
I don't like what I read in your message about calling Autodesk. Are you speaking facetiously or did this really happen? If it did, could you tell me which number you called and who you spoke to?
Mark, I'll take up the gauntlet and answer your network questions. Which machines are crashing when you try to switch modes? The slaves, the master, or both? Also, what is the hardware configuration for the machines that are affected. For the array bug, my first attempt did not create the…
Tom, 3DS, more than any other application, relies on the VMM swap drive that Phar Lap creates for memory intensive tasks such as rendering. This swap drive should be placed on an UNCOMPRESSED drive. What many people do to gain some benifit from Disk compression is to compress a portion…
AXP Questions
Message #66610
Questions regarding development issues and IPAS routines are best placed in Message area number 1, I will forward this along to the right people and hopefully get an answer soon.
Rodger, Outputing to a camcorder, I will assume that it is not capable of single frame recording. (A few of them are, but I doubt this one is.) Since you will be recording "real time" the tool you are looking for is a VGA to NTSC scan converter. There are…
3d studio conversion
Message #66591
Andrew, I have never found any way to directly convert into the ANI format. What you will probably have to do is save your frames as individual TGA or GIF files out of AAPRO and then bring them in one at a time into Deluxe paint. NUMPIC will automate things…
>>" Is that the GRASP people do incorporate there FLC files……." HUH? -Brian
Both Compilers will be excellent for use with the CDK. Something to consider, however, is that Zortech has been bought by Symantec, and they are suppossed to be releasing a "Zortech Compatable" version of the Symantec Compiler. We have not tested this with the CDK yet, since it is not…
Yes there is an educational discount available to schools and institutions, however, I do not believe that this is available directly to students. There might be certain students who qualify, however. For more information call 800-879-1223 for the name of an Multimedia Educational Reseller in your area.
Rick, I do not have a specific recomendation for a scripting package, but it seems like you are looking for more capabilities than the Windows player or AAPLAYHI can give you. However, both of those can be found right here on this forum. As far as Windows palette colors, you…
Marty, What do you mean by re-aligning the config.sys and autoexec.bat files? What we recommend is to strip those files for your testing. In the config.sys leave in only files= and buffers=, and in autoexec.bat leave in only prompt and mouse. Make sure you do not load in any video…
Garry, AAPRO is a 256 color program. You will always have to take your image that is created in AAPRO and convert it to 16 colors using some specialized conversion program like Image Alchemy or Hijaak. -Brian
Ah, what a tangled web we weave, when first we practice to … ….manage our memory.
As I remember, please correct me if I am wrong, The Illuminator will play the flc file through the VGA passthrough, but you can not get this out to tape through the illuminator because it is playing at a different horozontal frequesncy. Is this still true?
Disappearing reflection
Message #64153
Gary, You mentioned that the other objects were not affected. Do any of these also have automatic reflection maps? -Brian
Remember, The VESA drivers that come with AAPRO are only examples of VESA drivers, they are not epected to be a solution for every video card that is on the market. We rely on the vendor supplied VESA drivers for many video cards. -Brian
(503) 899-1113 Trilobyte As far as the NEC is concerned, It all boils down to what graphics chip it has and then finding the right driver. Can you find out the actual chipset of the color video? -Brian
I am not familiar with another player that autodetects cards, but many people are using the plain old ANIPLAY program, and also including the universal VESA driver which is in the file VESA32.ZIP to detect the VESA mode of the video card.
Did someone already ask?
Message #63758
This is not a problem that I have run across yet, but someone else might have. The only thing I can think of is there is a problem with sharing the control files between the station that is rendering and the station that is calling up the MCS. What kind…
3ds3 Crash
Message #63744
Just to make sure we are talking about the same thing when I say "strip the system"…The only thing in your config.sys would be files= and buffers=, the only thing in your autoexec would be prompt and path, and you would not be loading any TSR's, video drivers, ADI drivers,…
Gordon, What happens when you strip the system and re-configure for a plain jane VGA monitor? Do you still get these crashes? -Brian
There are few controller cards which for one reason or another will not work with the HW lock. So far, I have only seen it with a few 66 machines. You might have to install a seperate LPT port. -Brian
The details as I know them: Pharlap wrote a device driver that is used to run Phar Lap programs under Windoze. It is the file "pharlap.386" that you set up as a device driver in the windows .ini files. Phar Lap has not written an equivelent device driver for the…
Dwanye, Yes, we can replace the CD-ROM, you need to talk to whoever your contact in the developers program is here at Autodesk. They can arrange a replacement through product support or Cusomer Service. -Brian R
Yes, There development kits available. Call 800-228-3601. -Brian R
Something else you can do would be to start with a long thin rectangle in the shaper. This would be the edge of the roof section (Or mabye you would call it the lip of the roof). Then loft that recatangle along a curved path, and scale it to very…
If gary's suggestions about hard disk space and settings of your swapdir doesn't immediately solve the problem, tell us more about your systems configuration. -Brian
Mel, As of yet, I have not seen anything that will convert AVI directly to FLC. However in the the Graphics Support Forum (I think) is a program that will convert AVI files to a series of sequential TGA files. From there you could use the numpic routine in AAPRO…
Frieder, Tell me more about your hardware and software configuration. -Brian
Sorry Alan, Over here we don't know much about Generic CADD. Try posting this question in the ARETAIL forum. Thats where those GENCADD type people hang out.
Nothing new off the top of my head. Glad its working. -Brian
Sorry, You need to ask this question in the Retail products forum. GO ARETAIL. -Brian R

animation loops forever
Message #59322
>>Why is the animation looping to begin with? Shouldn't I have to set a flag to cause looping? Actually, it is my understanding that the default is for animations to loop infinitely, and you need to set the flag to make it stop looping. Anyway, another option to try is…
#ipas
Message #56901
Joseph, I'm confused. Are you looking for information to develop IPAS routines, or are you looking to purchace IPAS routines? -Brian
On what do you base a comparision of better or worse? If you give me some definable terms, I could make some FLC's using both techniques and look for specific differences, but I don't know how to judge a phrase like "better or worse for this. -Brian
Chris, The FLI/FLC format does not have sound built into the file, you must have attached the sound to the file somehow. Do you have an idea what you used to do this? Is it a script routine? -Brian
If you have Animator Pro, there is a utility built into the program called NUMPIC which will do just that, and it handles the palettes and conversion to FLC format automatically. If you are looking for a seperate utility, I am not aware of one, but you might try the…
Double space is not a good idea for AAPRO. It uses a Virtual Memory Manager which writes temporary files to the Hard disk. These files really should be placed on an uncompressed drive. Also, with DOS 6.. are you using EMM386 and/or MEMAKER? -Brian
Joe Typically the ADI drivers that were built to be used with ACAD do not meet the specifications needed to be used as an ADI driver for CDK. The manual (in discussing the CyADIdisp class) specifies the use of an "ADI 4.2 rendering driver." we are not aware of any…
That's the slow way. Use NUMPIC in the POCO menu to bring in a series of sequentialy numbered images as a flc automatically. -Brian
I agree, it does sound like you are using an ACAD driver, and it might not work. If it will work with 3DS, it needs to be set either as an RCPADI or RDPADI driver. To re-configure an ADI driver for 3ds, the easiest way is to delete the 3DADI.CFG…

autocad for windows
Message #55487
Jack, This message really needs to get posted in the ACAD forum. You are in the ASOFT forum, which deals with 3D Studio and multimedia. Type GO ACAD to get to the ACAD forum. -Brian
Andy, You can render you animation in ranges, and then splice the animations together in AAPRO, or you can specify which camera to use as seperate entries in video post. -Brian
Bernard, Actually, I've never tried it. I know when I instaled AVI it modified my media player so that I could use it with AVI files. I'll do some experementation. Perhaps someone else has tried this. -Brian
Did you either configure while you were in 320×200 resolution, or are you drawing in 320×200? Remember the aspect ration for this resolution is .82. Thepixels them selves are actually elongated. -Brian
Stephen, It appears that you have been given some misinformation. The 24 hour return policy refers to: If you have a product for which Autodesk provides direct telephone support, such as Multimedia Explorer, and you call the Product Support telephone number included with your software, and a technician can not…
Stephen, do you have the most current version of the VESA driver for your graphite card? It would be worth a call to the manufacturer to see if you do. Lately it seems as if VESA drivers are being updated on almost a weekly basis with some video cards. I…
Keith There is nothing you can do with 3DS Release 2 to make it run under a DOS window. This is a feature of Release 3. Also, the most current versions of the .DLL are 12/9/92. You can find them in the file NEWPLA.ZIP. -Brian
I have never tried it. What I have done is used FLITAPE or NUMPIC to produce a series of images on my hard disk, and then use the driver built into VESAVIEW to print to the HP 500C. I believe VESAVIEW can be found as VESAVW.ZIP in the Graphics support…
