Try a more recent version of DiskMasher. The program doesn't seem to handle version mismatches very gracefully. The PhonePak 2.4 files were created with DiskMasher 1.53.

If LineMan says there's new messages, then there probably are. I'll bet that the reason you can't see it is because it's a system file. Select Mailbox/Filter/Show System Files from the menu bar, then click on the New button. If a new file shows up, hold the Alt key down…
