RE: Laptop Amiga. I talked to the developer two weeks ago, the Laptop in still on track, just a slow track, they expect to be shipping within the next 60-90 days. – via Whap!
I have been having a constant problem with "Error positioning in file…" problems when altering records in a file. Finally came to the conclusion (and verified) that at least one condition that trashes the index pointers is indexing on a calculated field that does not re-calulate on the first save…
I might add to this thread that you will find a great deal of the power of SBPro in the ability to handle many edits and relations in the file definition or Data Dictionary. The capabilities in SBPro to extablish much of your relational integrity concerns in the file definitions…
I have been having similiar problems with reports and simple DML routines for printing, I have asked here for the info left out of the manual on exactly what the various setup setting are in the configuration file, but have had no response. try mixing settings in the config file,…
Jumping in on this thread: It is not clear to me what products Precision still has, I thought they had sold it all. What do they have left to support? – via Whap!
This thread is getting long! Expot/Import solved the problem. I put the message up to see if any others were having the same problem and might have been able to pinpoint the cause or conditions that were causing it. In my case the problem seemed to be associated with the…
Follow on note to my previous message regarding 'less tolerant' SBPro4/Amiga: I have since done some reorganization of the file in question to take advantage of VIRTUAL fields for some super-descriptor fields (compound calulated fields used as indexes for specific applications) and found that I was able to correct the…
Darin: First, I appreciate your continued assistance here considering the changes in ownership, etc. I tried that, got rid of each index one at a time, rebuilt the primary keys, etc, still no luck. Even REORGANIZE carried the problem with it. Export/Import was the only solution.
Ah Ha! It is a 'bug/feature', not just me. I havn't figured out a workaround or even exactly what conditions cause it either. Maybe associated with the agravation of the NUMBLOCK automatically turning on every time a DML program is run. By the way, anybody figure out how to change…
RE: Export and Re-import back to 3.0 That works, but even ran into a problem in that. Didn't take the time to look at it close, just opened the 3.0 file with 4.01 and was able to import, now file works fine with 3.0
I found a long time ago that LIKE provides better results than ' = ' on text, but now seem to have to always end mask with * when I didn't have to before. Seems to bee seeing all charcters in field, even trailing blanks. Not a big complaint in…
See previuou reply: didn't help on this one, first time in years (yes, years)
Tried deleting/rebuilding the index twice, no help on this one. Like you I have had good luck with that remedy before, but not this time.

Anybody else encountered this one: A function key sequence that has worked for years now won't work under 4.01. I have a DML program that I load that has several subroutines that I call from a function key with a simple GOSUB. Now the program goes to the called subroutine…

Another one of those 'moved from 3.0 and works fine until you try to change it' problems: calculations for a field are much less tolerant in 4.01. I have a calculated field that is a lookup based on another field. The calculated field is one byte numberic and the lookup/tenery…

I have encountered a major problem with corrupted files that I have never had before in SBPro/Amiga (had it occur on the C-64, not with Amiga versions). That is 'error in postioning in file' followed by errors deleting a record (100 and 101). Seemed to have been caused by trying…

Has anyone else found that the Filter logic on Queries is 'different' when it comes to searching on text fields? I have managed to get around this by always ending the test data with "*", but don't seem to have the same flexibility as I was used to under 3.0/exit

Warning about printing! Programs with proven print routines (font changes within a document, etc) that were running fine under 3.0 are not reliable under 4.01. I haven't figured out all the variables on this one yet, just know that two programs that worked fine one day would't work the next.…

This is primarily for information for those that have not found this out yet, maybe the hard way. ONCE YOU MAKE THE COMMITMENT TO TRANSITION TO SBPRO4 FROM SBPRO3 YOU CAN'T GO BACK WITHOUT A LOT OF PROBLEMS! Although there is no problem reading SBPro3 files from SBPro 4, once…

In SBPro 3.0/Amiga, when entering data into a field on a Form, if the field was already full, if in overstike mode you could still enter the new data. This is no longer true, the fields within a form act the same as on the standard (not a form) screen:…

A very nice feature of 3.0 has been lost and can cause unwary a lot of grief: 3.0 would tolerate double quotes (") enbedded in a field on import but 4.01 will not. If importing a delimited ASCII file (in my case the export of the master file to correct…

I have been having eratic screen display problems with applications that ran fine in SBPro 3.0 but now act up in SBPro4/Amiga. These are cases where a message is being placed on the screen with a DISPLAY@ command that includes the expected response to a yes/no, then the cursor is…
SBPro4/Amiga
Message #31374
I'm posting a series of small messages regarding problems I've encountered moving some applications from SBPro 3.0/Amiga to SBPro4. If anyone has fixes or any 'wisdom' on these items, please leave a response. Some of these notes are only intended to inform others of these differences and hopefully Oxxi (or…
Duke, we are eternal optimists, hopeing that the rest of the world will gain the wisdom we already posses, either that or just plain bull headed techno-weinies!
I agree with all you say, my context was BUSINESS market. The C-64 (and the Atari series) could have been marketed into the business comunity IF they had bothered. Apple was quite succesfull in that area, competing with the CPM systems. The C-64 could have also (and also the Atari)
Thanks for the comment on 2.04, biggest problem is getting it! Totally unavaiable from any dealers in the area, last check (last week ) none could even get a shipping commitment or price from CBM! I'm putting together a list of problems with SB4/Amiga, several small iritations, several gripes about…
Thanks for the firm response, guess I live with it.
Yes, long time Duke… On my soapbox for a minute here, as a long time supporter of CBM, mostly on the 'bleeding edge', I have watched them blow three major technical advances in the last 15 years. First, the PET was so superior to the Apple II that there was…
Doubt that problem is with Amiga-DOS, error message is looking for a file that it can't find, doesn't exist. Have no intention of moving to 2.0 until the bugs are out. Also seriously considering moving back to SB 3.0 considering all the problems that are cropping up with 4.0 and…
NUMLOCK Problems
Message #30638
What is the DML command for controling the NUMLOCK on or off? Found it in the .ini file, but SB keeps changing my keyboard every time a new DML program is started, and the programs are using input from the key pad, very agravating for the user to have to…
Labels Prob Solved
Message #30637
Problem encountered and solved catagory: A setup for labels insisted on adding a form feed at the bottom of the page, thus skipping a page. Setup screen for labels has a control for number of label rows per page. This was set to 11 (printing 4-up Chesire labels). What was…

What the h… is a 'subrunform.tmp file and where do I get one? Every time I try to edit a form from within SB I get an error messeage (in a requestor that never closes, behind my manin screen, please fix that) saying 'Can't open subrunform.temp'. It's a drag to…
Hate to throw cold water on this thread, but based on OXXI's track record, spotty at best, I'm getting closer and closer to freezing any further development in the Amiga environment and start recommending Messy-DOS and Windows to my new clients. This has as much to do with CBM's total…
I second the motion, use a table file of valid entries for the field, validate validate the field with a LOOKUP using requestor 20. I have several applications running that use this feature including a couple of business applications installed in offices, and the users love it. They can also…

Deleting fields
Message #20022
If you have linked files, that is a muliple file report form, there will be a SELECT WHERE sequence included in the report program generated by the Report generator, otherwise, and the book does mention this in an unlikley place, you have to save the report then bring it in…
