Go to your public libary and check out PC Magazine, December 22 1992 issue. It has a fairly comprehensive hardware review on CD-ROM drives and relating issues. Doug.
#44126 NEC CDR-74 drive Message #44211

Thanks for the advice. I checked with NEC and they say the drives can be used as a SCSI or SCSI-2 device – what a relief. I did not want to buy something proprietary. I believe some of the SONY drives and controller are like that. Doug Luu

Thanks Martin. I thought about buying a SCSI-2 controller, something with performance and expansion capability, and be used for other things besides the CD-ROM drive.

NEC CDR-74 drive Message #43975
From: DOUG LUU CDROM Forum · General March 24, 1993 5:59 PM
Does anyone use a NEC CDR-74 drive? If so, please let me know what you think of it? Specifically, which SCSI controller will the NEC drive work with? I currently use a DPT EISA SCSI controller. I wonder if I can connect the NEC drive to it? Thanks.
