Lance, I don't meant to beat up on you or beat this into the ground, but Convolver provides a *lot of control. Have you tried the Designer or Tweak modes? You can control the amount of effect very closely and see just what you're getting. –Heidi
Lance, play with Convolver some more. I think it's really remarkable. It's, perhaps, a little more subtle than KPT, but I'm finding it very useful. I guess I don't think of it as a set of filters so much as a tool–maybe that makes a difference. –Heidi
Seamless tiles: Open a new file. Select all. Choose Tools, Patterns, Capture Pattern. A new file will open. When you paint into it, it will wrap around as you hit an edge–thus creating a seamless pattern when that file is used to make a tile. –Heidi
I'm sure you can do the same thing with Picture Publisher and/or Corel Paint, but don't know what the exact commands are called. And a plug for Fractal Design Painter: it has an automatic method of creating seamless tiles while you're painting! For me, at least, it's not a replacement…

Mike, I use Photoshop to create a tiled wallpaper. Start with a tile of your design. Then use the Offset filter at a setting of half the width in pixels and half the length in pixels. Then work on the design so that no seams are visible. Voila! A tile…
