John, I believe you're looking for information on the AppleSingle/AppleDouble file format. I'm not familiar with these, but there are a couple of messages discussing this(these?) format(s) here in MacDEV right now. I'm sure they'll contain pointers to the official documentation. I don't think Apple has ever documented the format…
