#New Product Name Contest

We have a small new product that needs a name. It is a very tiny circuit
board that fits under the even CIA (U6N in a 1000) and is intended for use
in the 500 and 1000. It has two jumpers, one of which disables all floppy
drives except DF0:. You can add a switch to this one and use it to disable
extra drives for those games that want all your chip ram. The second jumper
is the important one for our applications. It disables your internal
floppy drive and makes your first external one DF0: (and the next DF1:,
etc.). This drive shifting allows you to replace your internal drive with
a hard drive (preferably hooked to our AdIDE interface). This makes it
just about the cheapest way possible to get a hard drive. Yes, you lose a
floppy, but you probably already have an external one, and you won't use
two very often after you get a hard drive.
Anyway, this board doesn't have a name. It is finished, ready to assemble.
All the parts are in inventory. The manual is even finished, ready for a
search-and-replace of the name. But we can't do the packaging and
marketing without a name. This is where you come in. Reply here with a
name. If we use it, and if you were the first one to suggest it, then
we'll give you one of the boards. This info will also be posted on GEnie,
and I will be giving people who call the office an opportunity to guess.

sometimes spur a "good" idea.

Will it autoboot the a500 from the internal hard drive? Will you be
selling a combo package? Is the AdiDE interface on the same small card?
How about: Willowdisk – the flexibility of a willowtree for your a500
FlexiDisk or FlexiCard – based upon the option flexibility
IHD-500 (int.HardDrive, so what does ICD stand for?)

No, AdIDE is a separate product. It does allow autobooting with Kickstart
1.3 or higher. Probably not a combination, but you never know. And ICD
doesn't stand for anything. The official name of the company is ICD,
Incorportated.

the AdSwitcher (in keeping with your other names sort of).

How about "SpaceMaker"? Emphasize that your drive doesn't take any more
desk space, and makes space inside the A500 for a drive. Variations:
SpaceMan, Spacer, HardSpace, RockinaHardSpace, DiskSpace, SpinSpace, SCetc.
Or, TightDrive, MiniMegs, SpotDrive, CramDrive, JamDrive, LowRider,
GrooveDrive, LiveDrive, InsideDrive, TuckedInDrive, CozyDrive,
CozyController, Snug-As-A-Bug Drive, Tight Drive, Tight Mite, Tight Might,
Might Fit :-), Mighty Tight, Tight Right, Light Drive, Hermetic Drive, Firm
Drive, Right Hand Drive. I'll take a 40 megger if I picked the right name.
Oh! The Nowhere drive. The No Place drive. The Erehwon drive. (Nowhere,
spelled backwards… Samuel Butler wrote a novel back in the 1800s, about
the day when intelligent machines take over the world, turning humans into
docile pets, called the novel "Erehwon.") The Hardly Drive. The Inside
Drive. The Inner Drive. The UnSeen Drive. (Boy, I've got a surplus of
embedded capitals today!)
Looks like I may have to modify the rules. FIVE SUGGESTIONS PER
PARTICIPANT!!!!!! And get the right product. Thank you for your support.

No, the contest isn't for the hard drive interface, just the board that
disables the internal drive and makes the external DF0:. THIS is the thing
we need the name for.

Well, to put a slight spin on your other product names: ReDisk or
ReDrive.
It's up to the purchaser to decide if the Re stands for remove or
redirect….

"Overdrive" – partly because it moves all the drives over.
"Overboard" –
"Nemo" – because it has no name :-).
I think one of those names may already be in use, tho. Maybe "Shuffler"?

Here are a couple of possibilities for your product:
1. Back Seat Driver
2. KGB Board (since it goes under the CIA chip…. 🙂
3. Mulligan Board (It allows you another first drive [as in golf])
4. AdDisk (In keeping with your current naming conventions)
5. The ReDirector (or Detour)

(if not terribly specific).
