Walter Is this something that I can cram nito my stock 2000HD? –S/ex

Suzanne: Yes, a 2620 will work in a stock 2000HD. The 2500/20 was basically just a 2000HD with a 2620. Clint <VRLI>

Clint, How are you? Is the system I sold you doing alright? Did you ever finish that software you were telling me about? Best wishes. Dom Fontana

Dominick: The 500's still hanging in there. I'm debating putting in the 1.3 ROM or waiting for 2.0. Probably do the former as it'll be used as primarily our game machine. We added a 3000 to our 'clan' so now we have the 500, 1000, 2500 and 3000. One Amiga for each member of the family. <g> I don't remember what I was working on when we last chatted. I've been busy getting a new batch of landscapes ready for Vista, and then I want to try my hand at writing a game (if I can squeeze out the time <sigh>). Drop by CO in Tech and say 'hi' some night. I am on a bit late by east coast standards, though (>10:30PM PST). Clint <VRLI>

Clint, It was the Vista program you were telling me about. By the way, do you know anyone who would trade an A2630 for an A2620 with 2 megs of Ram? Possibly someone who was selling their Amiga and could swap boards with me before they sold it. Dom Fontana

Dominick: Not anyone that I know. You might find people willing to buy the 2620, but you'd still need to add $$$ to move up to the 2630. VistaPro shipped in mid-november. Did quite well over Christmas, and in early January, but all of our business slumped during the war. Hopefully it'll begin to pick up now that it's over. Clint <VRLI>

Clint, Good luck with VistaPro. I'm aware that the A2630 costs more than the A2620. Also, is the Panasonic printer I sold you doing alright? Dom Fontana
#17016From: Clint H. WoeltjenMar 10, 1991 2:31 AM
Dominick: Actually, I still haven't taken the printer out of the box. <sigh> The kids haven't been screaming for a printer, and we have 2 others online so I never got around to it. I probably will soon, as the kids will need it for school papers and such. You might look into the mega-midget racer by CSA for a 68030 board. They're supposed to be reasonably priced. Clint <VRLI>

Clint, Thanks for the info on the CSA board. Concerning the printer, I just wanted you to be satisfied that it worked. Dom Fontana

Dominick: I'm sure it does, and I know where to get repairs if and when they're needed. Really, I'M HAPPY WITH THE SYSTEM! <grin> (you can relax) Clint <VRLI>

Clint Remind me how much and do you know if i need something extra to make it work with the 5 megs of RAM that I have now or do I need to get some additional furshlugginer board or new host for the memorysorry for being to ignorant; this is not an end of the machine I know very well.
#17017From: Clint H. WoeltjenMar 10, 1991 2:31 AM
Suzanne: You shouldn't need anything other than an empty slot to make the 2620 work. I think it has on board memory capacity, but it should work just fine with your existing memory and other peripherals. Clint <VRLI>

Clint I'll check the slot situation. How much do you want for it? —Suz—

Suzanne, I was following your thread concerning the A2620. I have one. All you have to do is insert it in the CPU slot. Looking at the front of the computer, that's the first slot on the right. It has room for 4-megs of 32-bit RAM on the board. That's faster memory then the regular 16-bit RAM. If you get the board, make sure you download David Haynie's SETCPU program from this Forum. It'll speed up the board even more. My A2620 works perfectly, and I've never had any problems with it whatsoever. Good luck. Dom Fontana

Dominick those are good tips! Perhaps you might also know whether I can use the ram I now have with ram on the board or whether I am limited to 4 megs , or what. Suz sounding stupid

Suzanne, Your questions are very good and intelligent. I don't know your exact configuration, but the Amiga can access 9 megs total Ram, in its standard configuration. 1-Meg is chip Ram. You can add 8-Megs of expansion Ram, for a total of 9-Megs. If you populate the A2620 with 4-Megs of Ram, you can still add another 4-Megs of Ram on another expansion board. A fully-populated system would have 1-Meg chip Ram, 4-Megs (32-bit) Ram on the A2620, and 4-Megs (16-bit) expansion Ram, for a total of 9-Megs of Ram. You can mix 32-bit and 16-bit Ram. The system will access the 32-bit Ram first, where appropriate, before the 16-bit Ram. The 32-bit ram will run faster than the 16-bit variety. You can only have the 32-bit Ram if you have an accelerator. Without an accelerator, you could add 8-Megs of 16-bit Ram. Also, in order to access 1-Meg of chip ram, you need the ECS Agnus (Fatter Agnus) chip. A number of companies are now making boards and chips that allow access to 2-Megs of chip ram and 18-Megs of total Ram. To answer your question, with 4-Megs on the A2620, you could still use up to 4-Megs of whatever expansion memory you now have. If you have 6-Megs of Ram, then just add 2-Megs on the A2620. For that matter, if you already had a full 9-Megs of total Ram, then you could just use the A2620 without any Ram expansion at all. I hope I have been of some help. If you have any further questions, I'd be happy to help you. Dom Fontana

Dom This is just the info I need to make an intelligent decision. It will enable me to get the 2000hd going faster and get work done without twiddling my thumbs as much (I suppose if I had the 030? I could twiddle nery a bit.) Thanks again.

Suzanne, I don't know what kind of work you'll be doing on the computer, but for many applications, you won't really notice a speed difference with the A2620. For CAD applications, fractal generation, and spreadsheets, you should notice a big speed difference. However, for most other applications, you won't notice much of a difference at all. I don't want you to get your hopes up too high, only to be disappointed. Dom Fontana

Dominick, I saw your note about, 'about to buy a 2620'. I have a the Commodore 2620 for sale. $500. Works perfectly, just sitting in its box at this time though. Drop me a email note if you are interested (anyone) and I will give ya a call. Jer
