#2090 Controller

I just bought a used 2090 Controller at a Hamfest and I'm wondering how
to set up the jumpers and unit numbers for it. My system is a 2000HD with a
GVI hardcard as the original boot disk (fully populated) with the 2090 as
the only other circuit board. The Drive I'm hooking it to is a Tulin 30Meg
drive with ST-506 connections. I've hooked up drives to my A1000 before, so
I'm pretty confident about the cableing. I just need to know the
peculiarities of the 2090.

There are no configuration jumpers on the 2090. ST-506 drives get
jumpered as any other ST-506 type controller…first drive get's jumpered
as drive 1 and 2nd as drive 2. A common controller cable goes to both
drives, individual data cable from the board to each drive (if you have 2
drives).
However, you will need the software that goes with the 2090.
Because before a drive can be used, it must first be "prep'ed". You should
also get the manual, if you didn't get it…any Amiga dealer ought to be
able to assist you.

Jumping in with a related question about 2090's and GVP SCSI cards…
Will the 2090 card work in Michael's Amiga along with his GVP disk
controller? I'm wondering about a similar problem. I'd like to get a
Syquest or Ricoh drive along with a new GVP controller, but would like to
still be able to use the ST-506 drive on the 2090 card. Would the GVP SCSI
controller conflict with the ST-506 drive on the 2090 card? Or, would it be
able to work as a second disk controller?

They should work together just fine…however, I personally have
never tried them together…so can't say for sure.

Thanks! I'll wait and see what sort of prices I get at the AmigaWorld Expo
this weekend on the removable drive. It would be nice to keep the old 2090
card and ST-506 drives…

They should "theoretically" work just fine. While I do not have a GVP
controller, I am currently running with both a 2090 and a Microbotics
HardFrame. In my case, both controllers are currently driving SCSI
devices, although I previously had an ST506 drive connected to the 2090
with no problems (until the ST506 drive decided it was time to retire due
to senility).

Your info is appreciated! If your 2090 was running as a second disk
controller for both ST-506 and SCSI, then I won't worry too much about
problems coming up with adding a Syquest or Ricoh to my setup. I'm going to
be checking prices at the AmigaWorld Expo tomorrow on a GVP and Syquest or
Ricoh drive! Thanx!
