Call Waiting/Modems

Does anyone know if modems are still interrupted by the beep from call
waiting? I know that they were a feww years ago. I am also aware of an
alternate service that allows you to enable and disable call waiting but it
is not currently available in my area.
Steven,
Yes…modems are still interuppted by call waiting. Most, if not
all, phone companies that offer call waiting…also have some keystroke
combination that will disable it (and another to re-enable it).
Don
*70 disables it (I think) and it is reenabled when you hang up.

Dave,
I think it varies from place to place…but not having call waiting
(nor wanting it)…I don't know for sure.

Yeah, it may have been a mistake to get it (call waiting) I find it
marginal at best and a dedicated computer line solved the CW problem.

Steven-
I did have that problem. It has since been eliminated. Most
annoying…using a program like Whap! and somebody calls in. The telephone
company had it enabled for people to try the call waiting out…recently
they have discontinued the trial period…thank god!

Alan:
In most areas simply adding *70, in front of the phone number (in the phone
number string gadget of whap!) will cancel call waiting for that call. in
some area that don't have touch-tone dialing the sequence is 1170, although
I've never tried the all number one myself.

Works like that here, frankly I don't know how anyone lives without call
waiting…..and 3 way calling, and call forwarding etc.
To me there is nothing more annoying on earth then a busy signal!!!

And to the rest of us, Tim, a beep in the middle of the call is an invasion
and a distraction. However, I DO like forwarding and 3-way calling. Call
waiting so far is annoying to me.

Mike,
Thanks Mike. I no longer have the call waiting feature on my phone line
but I know of others who have. Will pass on the info you provided.
