AA Pro only works in 8-bit, 256-color modes.
I also have a need for a 640 x 480 x 16 .flc player for demo disks. If one
had the .FLC file format do you think the graphics mode could be modified
for standard VGA? I have asked Autodesk for the Aniplay source and file
format to see what I can come up with. Has anyone attempted this?
You should take a look at AutoFlix over in the ACAD forum. It works at EGA
16 color resolution and offers some interactive capabilities.

The suggestion about AutoFlix is a good one, unfortunately, it won't work.
That program only plays works with AutoShade generated .RND files. Better
luck next time.

I didn't know what source the images were from, so I just mentioned Flix.

I did dig up a program called DTA written by David Mason. The DTA program
is able to take a series of GIFs or PCXs and make a .flc. I tried a simple
20 frame 640 x 480 x 256 flc, saved each fram, converted each frame to a 16
color GIF using VPIC, and let DTA.EXE do it's thing. I ended up with a 640
x 480 x 16 color .fli that could be played with the Triolobyte player in
standard DOS and VGA. Unfortunately the .fli was a little noisy (sparkle)
but it has merit. I am going to try and contact the author of the DTA
program on the board he hangs out on. If anyone is interested in the DTA
program let me know and I will be happy to upload it. Regards, Dave Dodson

At GRAFX, we generate 256 color FLCs, then image process the heck out of
them to get them to 16 colors. The biggest failing of ANimator and Animator
Pro is the total ignoring they do of standard video modes. But there are
ways around it with GRASP and a variety of Image Processing tools…
One practical though painstaking approach to turning 256 color FLCs into 16
color animations is to use GRASP (with its own support forum – GO GRASP).
The method involves writing out the frames as GIF images, applying color
reduction (much easier if you only use 16 colors to start with), and
creating what GRASP calls a DFF animation file with a utility provided.
This also works to (ugh) Hercules, EGA and CGA resolutions, color or black
and white if necessary.
