Hi, folks, I'm having trouble with my new Syquest drive (40 mb). I can only get it to recogize a new cartridge if I reboot. I autoboot from the Syquest, then copy the system stuff to RAD and assign sys: to rad. I've tried changing the cartridge, and get an icon called sdh0:RRRR. DISKCHANGE seems to be accepted by the shell, but it doesn't "take". Does anybody have any ideas?

Marion, Are the two cartridges formatted (and partitioned) exactly the same? Don

Don, Yes, they're both 10/31 megs. One is autobooting and the other isn't, but making them both autobooting didn't help. Do I maybe need a mountlist entry? Marion

Marion, Well…a diskchange should work then. Don

Marion: My SyQuest cartridges are formatted as 1 partition and normally the disk change is recognized. Every now and again it won't. Sometimes just reinserting it will solve the problem. Other times I use a PD utility called SCSIMounter by Martin A. Blatter. If you are having probelms with a new cartridge not being recognized try that program. It's here on CIS somewhere. -=Martin=- – via Whap!

Martin… Thanks…reinserting it doesn't help, so I'll look for the program. Marion

Martin… Thanks for the tip about SCSIMT. It works beautifully! Marion

Sounds like you are using an A3000 or a controller that doesnot support diskchange. GVP controllers have roms that will support this, but no luck on the A3000. I use the Ricoh removeables and have unpredictable recognition of disk changes. Rather than rebooting, I can often get it to mount by running the Hard Disk tools which scans the devices on the SCSI bus, then just exit the program and your in business.

I have an A3000 with a Syquest and it ALWAYS recognizes a diskchange with no problem. I always power up with a cart in the drive and all carts ar formatted identically. What problems you have might be related to the Ricoh drive although I am certainly NOT suggesting they are inferior. ….Mark Sterling 74335,1677
