AMAX-II problems

To all AMAX users, who can help ?
I just got AMAX-II (V 2.53b) and have problems getting it to start. First I
couldnt see anything (after clicking 'start A-Max') except a blue square
with a white border around it. I figured out that the problem was the PAL
mode my amiga boots in (I live in Germany). So I downloaded a tool which
boots my ami in NTSC mode. OK. After I got around that problem (which isn't
probably the right way to do it, but at least it worked for the beginning;
any suggestions what the _real_ problem is ??) I saw the MAC smile (I was
really happy), inserted the MAC boot disc, saw the "WELCOME" and…
"SYSTEMERROR — ID=10" (I was _NOT_ happy) !!! I cant get any further; I
tried any other RAM and video configuration, it wouldn't help. First it was
ID=03 but now (after about 10 hours of trying !) I always get "SYSTEMERROR
— ID=10". What does that mean ?? Soembody said it must be something with
wrong memory settings ??
My settings in A-Max Startup:
I have a 30MB partitition (called AMAX:) on my 105MB Quantum HD (Evolution
driver), AMAX recognises it. Video: Hires Interlace 640 x 512; dispay
size = visible size Memory: Use all Expansion; RAM Disk Memory is set to
0 so System Memory = Max System Memory; Chip Used = 61K; No MMU General
Preferences: None selected Ports: Port A: Amiga serial; Port B: Amiga
parallel; No emulation
My Hardware: A german (PAL) A2000 1MB CHIP, 2MB FASTRAM, HD as mentioned
above, external drive and modem which were turned off all the time.
Who can HELP ??
Any suggestions are gratefully apreciated.

What version of the Mac OS are you using? AMAX II only supports up to
6.0.5. I had a similar problem as you describe when I tried System 6.0.7.
I had the same problems with 6.07 and ReadySoft said to use 6.05 which
handles the memory properly.

I'm not shure which one it is but I'll find out tomorrow (it's too late now
and I got it from a friend…). I hope that's the problem (at least nothing
very hard to overcome) but w'll see… I'll come back and tell. Thanks so
far.

Amax II v2.53b is a beta version of AmaxIIPlus and should not be available
to anybody else than betatesters… If this is what you are call Ready Soft
and they will be pleased to help you finding the bugs before this software
really comes out!

You're right about AMAXII v2.53b. I called ReadySoft this morning, and the
person with whom I spoke emphasized that v2.53b was beta, and had not been
released. He informed me quite readily that anyone with a copy was
probably in violation of copyright laws.
On the brighter side of things, he did say that AMAXII+ should be out next
month…FWIW…
Does anyone have a Toshiba CD-ROM player hooked up to their AMAX with
success??? I'd love to hear how you got it working…the MacOS complains
that it needs a driver for the drive, and I can't seem to locate one…no
one at Toshiba seems to understand what a driver is (the usual runaround
I've found…). I'd love to be able to access and use my CD-ROM with AMAX!

I have a Toshiba XM-3201, and I have no intention of every using it with a
Mac or Amax. Send me a pre-paid mailer with a token of your appreciation
(not money! Maybe an old game (that will run under 2.04 and/or '030)
perhaps…I don't really care that much about the token, actually…) and I
will happily send you a CD-Technologies driver disk for the Mac. E-mail me
if you are interested.

I have successfully used a Toshiba CDROM under AMAX. My company brought the
drive from a Mac dealer and it came with the driver. It worked just fine.
I'm suprised that Toshiba couldn't supply you with a driver. I would
recommend you look at some Mac mags, and contact one of the dealers
offering the Toshiba drive for the Mac, they may be able to get you the
driver. Another place to try is Trantor, (510) 770-1400. I understand they
have generic CDROM drivers for the Mac. I haven't used them myself.
