David, You need version 2.21. MS has pulled it from their bbs, but I heard last week that it was available here. Try the Microsoft Knowledge base here. (GO MSKB). Frank

Ok, what's the problem with v2.20? I'm running it with MS-DOS 5.0 and haven't noticed any problems. Tom

Tom, In their infinite wisdom microsoft set MSCDEX to check for DOS versions of 3.1 to 4.x. Dos 5 obiously doesn't qualify. Normally SETVER, which installs itself with Dos 5 takes care of this, but there are systems on which Setver doesn't "take." (I'm sure Microsoft says no way, but there have been too many reports here (and I've seen it myself).) MSCDEX 2.21 is patched to run with Dos 5 W/o Setver. Frank

Frank, Thanks for the info. I have SETVER installed, which, I guess, is why I've had no problems with this. Tom

Frank, MS won't supply it to anybody, except a manufacturer or distributor; and they won't even tell you to whom they supply it cuz they don't officially support v2.21. (Wonderful service, Bill!) It used to be here, but no longer, alas. If you locate a freebie source, please let me know so I can update a library file I maintain on the subject; the only place for download I've found is a subscription ($$) BBS in Oregon. TIA… Kevin–
