D-410 Terminal Emulator
7 messages in this thread
Does anyone here know of a terminal program which will emulate a "D-410"
terminal? This is a terminal used to communicate with a Data General
mainframe. I understand that there are a number available in the MS-DOS
world, and if I have to I'll use the BridgeBoard for it. But really, I'd
rather be able to do it on my Amiga.

If you have any luck finding a comm program that'll emulate the D410,
could you forward the info to me, I'm also looking for one for the Amiga
since we use the DG at Public Works.
I left a similar message, as you did here awhile ago, and somebody
replied that they were writing a comm program with Dasher emulation but I
don't remember the name of the programmer.
There are a few comm programs out for the IBM that emulate Dasher
terminals, the two I'm familiar with are Blast and Smarterm. Blast allows
you to connect via modem as well as hardwire. Smarterm 400 allows you
hardwire connections and supposedly modem connections, but the software
does not seem to work with the Hayes command set even though the manual
says it will. I recommend Blast since it also gives you more file protocols
as well as a remote option.
Good luck.

I don't know if the WB2.0 only terminal package TERM2.0 supports D410
emulation or not, but it is configured to accept terminal emulation
libraries. You might want to get in touch with the author (he is in
Germany I think) and request such an emulation and maybe he can help.

I haven't upgraded to 2.0 as of yet, still at 1.3. But thanks for the
info and I'll look into it soon.

Thanks for the info about Blast in the MSDOS world. I have an XT-BB so
that is a reasonable solution for me. I just wish I didn't have to go to
the BB. A friend at work is apparently using Procomm Plus for his XT
clone. Procomm Plus has a DG210 emulation, but I don't know how well it is
working out. Usenet:Ernie_Gorrie@mindlink.bc.ca
Ernie, I didn't realize you were going to use it on a 2088BB. I also have a
2088BB, and with only 512K on it, I haven't been able to get it to work
properly. I assume it's the lack of memory on the XTBB. I'm not too sure
but it always hangs my XTBB when I run Blast.
I hope you didn't buy it yet. I just received ver 10.5(something). I'll
try it out at home on my XTBB and give you the results before you purchase
it.

No, I haven't bought Blast yet. I'm still looking in the Amiga world.
My employer is also reluctant to get into the 20th century and allow modem
access to the computers at work, so it may be a moot point for a while yet
anyway. Usenet:Ernie_Gorrie@mindlink.bc.ca
