#PCX CONVERSION

I'm looking for a conversion program from DXF to PCX. Anybody know of one?

Look at HiJaak from Inset Systems.

It depends on what you are doing. If you don't care about line weights,
then you can use Hijaak, and it works. However, if you need line weights,
then it starts to become an ordeal. But anyways this is what I've found to
work. First you need a shareware program called ACADVP.ARC which will
change a .PLT file into a .GEM file which recognizes weights. Then use
Hijaak or something similar to change the .GEM file into a .PCX file.
I really don't know why this process is so round-a-bout. I use it to fax
drawings, but it's a pain in the —. It seems that plotting to a .PCX
file or other faxable format should be built into AutoCAD…oh well.

Are you saying that Hijaak doesn't recognize line weights when it converts
from DXF to PCX? What else doesn't it convert? Apart from explicit
conversion packages, have you ever tried moving the drawing through a
structured drawing program such as Corel Draw or Harvard Draw? Those
programs often include DXF import and export to bitmaps… it might be
worth a try. Of course, every DXF translator acts a little different, so
something else might turn up missing.

That's what I is say'n. What it does is convert the colors. It makes
sense too, because until you plot the drawing red is red and white is
white, not 0.18mm or 0.25mm or whatever.
By the way Hijaak also doesn't support .shp files, so instead it substitues
its own fonts. Hey, but don't get me wrong, it's a great program, it
converts almost everything into anything. (Can't do a vector to raster)
Plus the screen capture works well. Captures AutoCAD screens great. Even
has a special Windows capture program.
I have tried bringing a dxf file into Designer, but with pretty much the
same results. Actually, most of the time it never got thru the file, but
instead crashed; it was probably me though.
