I examined the Win3.1 upgrade brochure carefully, and I believe the "MCI"
(Media Control Interface) will replace MSCDEX. I quote:
"Windows 3.1 also includes the media control interface (MCI), which is
designed to control multimedia devices such as videodisc players and
digital video cards (such as DVI). MCI also enables you to add new
multimedia applications and peripherals to your PC as they become
available."
This statement is accompanied by the MPC logo, and another sentence
specifically mentions CD-ROM players.
If anyone has any more definite evidence (to prove my supposition right or
wrong), I'll be looking forward to seeing it.
