#Rotoscoping–DQ/AA
9 messages in this thread
I am thinking about buying the Action Animator upgrade for my diaquest
DQ422 so I can do rotoscoping with one deck an AG-7750 I am wondering if I
need or would want the DQ/AA adaptor. I will be getting 3ds r2 which will
do rotoscoping in VideoPost, using groups of sequencial targa files(I
think).
With the DQ/AA adaptor I can run a batch file from VideoPost which will
grab a frame, composite it with a sequencial targa file, and then put it
back to tape. Without it I would have to grab outside of 3ds, save the
frames to sequencial targa, then go to 3ds to composite and edit.
If anyone– Kevin Krell…nudge…nudge…wink..wink–can offer some advice
or more info on this, I'd appreciate it. Are there other things I should
take into consideration (speed, ease)? Other products?
No problem in using a batch file from Video Post to hit Action Animator on
every frame and grab a new video frame for an animated video texture map.
You could do this with any VTR controller that had frame-grabbing
accessible from DOS. You don't have to pre-grab all the files and have
them on disk, although if you want to do that, you can.

Tom,
You will need the DQ-AA board for use with the Panasonic AG7750 in
serial mode. Of course I'd be glad to sell it to you if you're out our
way. In any case, 3D Studio users who now need Action Animator for use
with 3DS rel. 2 can get it at for the same as the bundled price ($695,
instead of $995).

action animator has problems with dos 5.0. one inperticular that drives me
crazy is that it will not run tgasave from the anitape program. so i have
to create a batch file to do the rotoscoping calling the action animator
commands from dos. i have let them know and there working on it i quess.

Sherwood,
I imagine Diaquest will straighten it out. Also, 3D Studio release
2 can control Action Animator from the Video Post module, with 3DS loading
the image, so should bypass this problem.

AH …. now theres good news … i almost gave up on action animator having
to edit those batch files was really getting to me.
sherwood
Kevin,
Is the DQ-AA price ($695) good from all dealers? Do I have to get it at the
same time as 3DS r2?

James,
Talk to your rep (or read your mail from Diaquest).

WOW, I leave for a couple of days and look at the size of this thread.
Thanks for all the input. I was debating whether or not to get the Action
Animator at all, because I am getting Lumena(psych!) and it does
rotoscoping. I suppose however that being able to grab from tape within 3D
Studio is a great help. Oh well that just brings me back to the same
formula.

I guess I'll have to buy one of everything.
