Hello Pat,
I'm wondering if you can help me out with something? I have been using
Maxiplan Plus for a long time now, (very happy with it) but only to do some
of my personal work at home. Recently, It has become important for me to
exchange data between work and home. We use Excel for Windows at work on
a clone (Not my decision) and I've been trying to exchange data. My old
manual (1986) describes Oxxi as the publisher of Maxiplan + but I haven't
heard anything about this program in years. Is it still around? Have
there been updates that I missed? Did you all sell it off or move on to a
product you acquired?
Anyway, I could get by OK with the current version if I could find a
current translator between Excel and MP+. I could probably even use the
123 (WK3) file format as a go between but the file converter supplied with
the program only supports the original WKS file format which is not very
inclusive. Can you or anyone else suggest a fix? A plan? An upgrade? Or a
new product that will solve this?

Okay, one question at a time.
MaxiPlan Plus has not been published for over two years. The next program
in the series, MaxiPlan III, was published by The Disc Company, but the
number we've been referring folks to call is now "out of service". Perhaps
someone else in this forum knows the current contact for the program.
Getting data from Excel/WIN to MaxiPlan should be a simple process if Excel
will output in ASCII with a user-selectable delimitation. I think if you
delimit cells with a [Tab] character, and rows with [CR]-[LF], name the
output file {filename}.WKS, you can use the Lotus 1-2-3 importer to bring
the file into MaxiPlan. That row delimiter may be simply [CR], too, I'm
not sure.
Are you using Cross-DOS to transfer data from one system to another?

Yes I'm using Cross-Dos for file transfers between clone and my Amiga.
The AscII xfer system is workable and I have been doing something slightly
better by writing out a WKS file directly from Excel/Win which it supports.
However, both this and the CSV formats leave all of your formating trashed
which makes daily exchanges of data files a pain. Also, MP+ only writes
proprietary output so xfering back is especially difficult.
Since neither of these options seem to suit my somewhat higher needs, (Now
I sound like a snob) can you offer some advice on what the definative (and
I do mean Way Cool) spreadsheet for the Amiga currently is with those in
the know?

Before you give up on MaxiPlan, try doing an output for Mail Merge from a
"database" setup on your spreadsheet. This output is ASCII delimited, just
like what you're looking for to import!

Great tip. Your right about the Mail merge output being more suitable but
I still forego all of the formatting. Do you know of an Amiga spreadsheet
that can read/write Excel files directly? Is this a pipe dream?

Clark, I don't know for sure, but you may want to talk to Gold Disk about
their new spreadsheet program.
