#VLT anybody ?

Hi All
Any _VLT_ users out there ? I D/Led this Term about 6 weeks ago from CI$,
and so far have been impressed with what I have seen. But, the DOCS leave
something to be desired. So if there is any USERS that would be interested in
exchanging information to help me set this thing up, please leave me a reply.

I don't know if it is still available, but at one time, there was a
typesent manual for VLT, but you had to order it from Willy Langveldt.
The address was in the docs that came with the program.

Betty,
I think I have already sent this REPLY but you recived my next message to:
Michael Shea 76665,3360 as well. Sorry, I used a \POST instead of /POST. So I
am resending to try and clean up the mess.

I saw the reply, but don't recall to whom it was addressed, Edson.
Anyway, the printed manual is really nice. I have a very old one that
came with an early version of VLT. It's worth sending for.
—Betty
Hi Betty,
I have written the letter and addressed the envelope, OOPS no stamps. OK. I
will get some stamps tomorrow, and send it off.
Edson
Edson,
I have used VLT in the past, but use Term mostly these days. VLT does
have, IMHO, the best scripting facilty for an amiga terminal program, with
both an internal script language and ARexx.
Inside the the archive is information on how to order a manual form SLAC
(Stanford Linear Accelerator). IT IS FREE. They even pay to mail it, all
you got to do is ask?
PMFJI, but yes, all you gotta do is ask. I don't use VLT much at the moment, as
CIS is currently my only "electronic meeting place" for now. It *is* a nice
program and quite good for general terminal emulation.
Bob
Bob,
I'm sorry, what does PMFJI mean?
PMFJI = Pardon Me For Jumping In
Just one of many colorful CIS acronyms…
Bob
Bob,
Yes, I remember now. I use a few of them also. Just had a mind block.
PMFJI – Pardon Me for Jumping In
—Betty
Betty,
You should have said:
PMFJI, but PMFJI means "Pardon Me For Jumping In".
8^)…..
Mike
I thought I DID say that.
—Betty
Betty,
I tried to make a funny. I guess you didn't get it. You see you jumped in
and told me what PMFJI means hence,
"PMFJI, but PJFJI means…."
I know, not very funny. I guess I should have put my smiley face on it.
8^)…..
Sorry – I guess my sense of humor must have been on vacation or
something?
—Betty
No sweat….
Hi Michael
There is an address to send away for the manual but being a procrastinator,
I have not yet done so. The internal script language and ARexx combined with
the speed at which it seems to scroll a message base when capturing, is one of
the reasons I like this software.
If I might ask, why do you prefer TERM over VLT?
Edson (!!agimA na ni deppart m'I !pleH) Gray
The main reason I like Term over VLT is the phonebook in Term. While there
is a nice ARexx phonebook for VLT, I find it somewhat inconvenient. As I
just recently got a flicker fixer though, and use almost exclussively
interlaced screens now, I may want to check out VLT again if it scrolls
faster than Term.
I have thought how I would like to write some scripts for term to automate
my BBS'ing, but I too am a pracrastinator.
Or maybe I just don't have a round tuit….8^)….
Mike
Hi Mike,
WHEN you get a round tuit,;-)
please let me know if my feeling that VLT scrolls faster then the other
Terminals I have tried is right. As I have never seen TERM I have no idea how
it would compare with VLT.
Edson
Ok Edson, I held this message in Autopilot, so when I get a chance (I am
studying for a Physics midterm right now) I will check it out and respond.
My test might not be a valuable as one done by someone who has a high
speed modem though (I'm still at 2400 baud with no v.42bis).
What do you need to know? I've got it working fairly well….
Keep coming back to it too, nothing seems as system-friendly as VLT.
// Brian — Cruising on AutoPilot…..

Hi Brian,
I have been using VLT for a couple of months now, and am very impressed
with its powerful script capability. But as there is no docs with the specific
commands available it is not easy setting one up. IE. I would like to append a
CAPTURE to a previous file. I know it must be in there some where, as it can be
done from the menu bar
I have been having lots of fun writing .scp files to automate my calls to
CI$. Before you reply, I can save you some time by saying. I can not use
AutoPilot as I am running an A1000 with 1.3, tried WHAP! Did not like it.
