#A1200 Power?

The 500 power supply uses different amperage. Please do not recommend
that people use the 500 power supply with the 1200 as they can burn up
their 1200. Not only did a friend burn up his bigfoot but his 1200 also!

It works here…
I recomend, because it worked here, and I know other people that use the
same setup. Besides, unless there was something wrong with the bigfoot, I
don't think it wouldv'e been hurt unless there was an actual short in the
1200, or the bigfoot.

Beats me… I know that they use different amps. I know that's bad. I
know what happened to my friend. I still say be careful. What's the
point any way? The 1200 power supply is plenty for RAM, HD and everything
else!

It's the Volts, not the Amps, that you need to worry about.
The only problem is that the voltage levels on some poorly designed power
supplies will go up as the load (current drain) drops. (ie: a machine that
draws less power, like the 1200, might not put enough of a load on the PS,
and the voltages could rise because of that, causing problems.)

Hmmmm… I thought both Voltage and Amperage were important. Still, I decided
to get rid of my bigfoot when I got my 1200 because of that problem. No sense
taking any chances if you don't have to.

The amperage rating of a power supply is only a concern if it is too
low. The unit hooked to the supply determines to amount of draw. The
rating of the supply only tells how many amps it can provide if called on
to do so. Thus, a 4 amp supply and a 1000 amp supply will only provide 3
amps of current if the equipment connected to it is only designed to draw
3 amps.

Just because the bigfoot can supply more power than the 1200 will use is
not a big deal. The 1200 will only draw so much current. Now if the
bigfoot has poor regulation, the lower load on the power supply may cause
the +5 volt supply to wander up to the 6's, this would _not_ be good for
the system.
Anyhoo, if the power supply regulation works worth a darn, there shouldn't
be a problem. You could use a 5 volt, _200_ amp power supply without
harming the 1200.

Hmmm. I know that the Big Foot has very goot voltage regulation. I wonder how
he killed his system then?
Amps don't mean that much, (As long as you dont throw a BUNCH in, and burn
the traces right off the board) The 1200 supply is defintely enough for
me now (1200 40M HD external floppy,) But I couldn't go any farther. I
couldn't hook up me neat SCSI stuff when I get a SCSI card…

I don't know about that Rob, I have a 200 Meg hard drive and the MBX 1200z with
8 Megs of RAM. I'll bet that the SCSI card would not take up that much more
than the 1200z. The new 1200 power supply I think has 23 Watts which is more
than enough to power a whole system compared to the 500 power supply which only
has about 12. Even though everyone here says that the BigFoot should be okay,
I am still skeptical after what happened to my friend.
The stock 500 power supply I have is 40W… And it wont run my SCSI
setup.

If your 500 PS is 40 watts, yours is different than mine was. It said 12
or 13 (I can't remember) watts on the bottom. I had to get the BF to
power everything. I certainly wont try it on my 1200.
