#ADPro update
30 messages in this thread
Dear gang at ASDG: I recently saw a post on the net refering to version 2.2 as
shipping with the Power up deal (ADpro that is) so I am wondering when we
commoners will be updated. And I know I've asked this a thousand times…do we
have a NASA loader yet?!? I need that one desparately to use with some cdroms.
Thanks for any and all info.

We are not offering anyone an upgrade to ADPro 2.2. Instead we are offering an
upgrade to ADPro 2.3. Version 2.2 was produced in a hurry to be used as part of
the Commodore A4000 bundle. It does not contain everything we wanted to include
as part of our next paid upgrade. Bottom line: ADPro 2.3 is a substantial
upgrade from ADPro 2.1.5.
Yes, we have a NASA loader (but it wasn't included in ADPro 2.3 – in keeping
with our usual quality standards we felt it wasn't ready for general release).
But, you can certainly get it from us on an as-needed basis. Just give the tech
support folks a call at our company.

Well – always good to hear that ASDG is about to come out with an upgrade
– the big question I have is:
DID YOU FIX THE INTERFACE YET!!!!!!!!?????????
I hope so: of course I'll still continue to use the daylights out of
it, but I for one will be thrilled when ADpro has the classy interface it
deserves (ImageFX has done a reasonable job) anyway – I look forward to
the upgrade. Thanks for the info on the Epson 800.

Major rework to the user interface will wait till ADPro 3.0. Some small tweaks
have been made in 2.3. But this certainly isn't the BIG question… which
should be things like “what's in the upgrade?''
OK then, what's in the update?

I'm glad you asked. If you're a registered user, you should be getting a thick
package detailing what's in the upgrade in the mail any day (mailing process
may take over a week for us to get out – so give it two weeks before you think
something might be amiss).
I'm going to post that kit here after the registered users get a chance to
receive their notice first.
OK- WHAT'S IN THE UPGRADE?!?!? ( See, I just ASSUMED it would be fabulous
and mindblowing and elegant- the interface is just icing)
Registered owners will get a thick package in the mail – I'll post details here
after we do registered owners the courtesy of letting them get the news first.
But to tickle you a bit, we've provided some things that people have been after
for two years but noone could do.
Please put my new address on file. I'm a registered owner of AdPro.

Someone told me that ASDG was working on a fast anim player for the AGA
machines, but I've not been able to confirm this anywhere. I would guess
that this would address those of us 4000 whiners who read about all those
full-screen, HAM8, 30fps anims at trade shows and can't achieve NEAR that
on our machines? Any news?
Karl
You have heard correctly.
ASDG has designed a 32 bit animation format which allows Amigas having 32 bit
CHIP ram to display ANIMs as much as 2.5 times faster than ANIM-5. Both ANIM
formats (ANIM-5 and -8) are included in ADPro 2.3. We have also commissioned
a new version of Michael Hartman's View as a service to our customers. And
will be distributing that version with ADPro 2.3.
Ah, bless you sirs. I've got a demo of a 4000 coming up the end of the
month for a bunch of IBMers and was disappointed that the best I could do
for anim speed was View, and full screen was not nearly as fast as reports
from show floors. I know you hate this question, but do you have any idea
as to when my upgrade will arrive?
And I guess what you're saying is that I'd need to have Imagine (or
whatever anim generator) create individual frames so that ADPro can
assemble them into proper ANIM-8?
Thanks,
Karl
Re: When Will The Upgrade Arrive – the flood gates open very very shortly.
Orders are coming in and being processed now. Deliveries will probably commence
next week.
Re: Imagine – yes – we have included tools to make this even easier. ADPro will
notice Imagine's output as it happens and process the images then and there.
Very Cool. Thanx for the info on Imagineeven tho Karl asked the question
hehehehe. As the Cliche goes. My Check is in the Mail as of 1 hour ago
<chuckle>
The day after I posted my question to you about when the update notice
would arrive….it arrived. My order went out the next day. Unfortunately,
I'm not sure it will arrive in time for me to use it for an upcoming demo
to a group of IBMers. I hear a new version of Viewtek may help, but I
don't know anything about that upgrade yet.
Looking forward to 2.3,
Karl
Great!!!
Will anim-8, or DCTV run full screen ful motion at least 30 fps???
Can't wait for info in the mails :^)
….John
ANIM-8 is as data dependent as ANIM-5 (and any DELTA based anim scheme).
Hoewever it is far more likely that ANIM-8 will achieve a desired framerate
than ANIM-5.
In other words: Your mileage will vary.
Sounds cool. Hope thet it will play or generate DCTV-4 anims. they should
go plenty fast………..
Can you explain the difference between Anim-5 and Anim-8, and if it will
work on older Non ECS or AGA H/W at all ?
Thanks
I haven't got anything in the mail, when do we get info ???
….John
ANIM-5 only creates delta information which is 8 bits wide. ANIM-8 can create
deltas 16 or 32 bits wide. On any Amiga, an 8 bit fetch is a waste of half your
speed. On the 1200, 3000, and 4000, an 8 bit fetch is a waste of 75 percent of
your speed. ANIM-8 simply makes use of this info.
All mail has been posted as of Wednesday (for North American customers).
Therefore all notices should be enroute or arrived already.
Perry, I wanted to know if Anim-8 will only work on 32-bit machines or
will it work with ALL Amigas? I saw a post you made a week ago and you
said that it was for those with 32-bit `chip' ram.
What do you think about Anim-7?

Approx how much will the upgrade from 2.1.5 to 2.3 be ?Thanx
The upgrade is priced at $50 – shipping is at no charge in the US.
What's included is, well, substantial.
Please tell me that the Animloader and Saver from Morph Plus is included
in the Adpro upgrade and that I don't have to buy Morph plus for this
feature. Thanx, also if you can UL a text file of some of the feature that
I'd be laying $50 for I'd appreciate as I'm sure others would too.
The ANIM loader (actually a much improved version with support for ANIM-5 AND
ANIM-8 with improved compression to boot) *is* included in the ADPro upgrade.
But we'd love it if you did purchase MorphPlus anyway. (wink)
– oh, the saver is included too.
A detailed information kit is being mailed to registered owners. Be on the
watch for it – and if you're not registered, now is a good time to do so.
Thanx for the info and yes I'm registered. Will the Pro pack also be
upgraded? I alsohave that since I trade Targa images with Atari owners who
use the EXCELLENT software from Lexicor. As to buyin morphplus, I'd have
to see a big improvement from it over Imagemaster and Cinemorph for me to
purchase it. There's some nice things in their(I spent quite a while
having it demoed to me) but not enuff to get me to buy it.
The PCP is also being upgraded. That upgrade is included in the cost of the
ADPro upgrade and is shipped (as patches) as part of the ADPro upgrade. PCP
improvements include a new (and very important) file format, and improvements
to the previously supported formats, continuing our track record as the
provider of the most robust conversion tools available for the Amiga today.
Thanx again for the info on the Upgrade. I hope the "Very Important" File
Format is the one I hope it is. I will wait till I get the package to say
what I HOPE it is.
I hope the new loader is PhotoShop, This would be great now that
PS 2.5 will be on mac and PC platforms.

Photoshop???? I thought Photoshop was a PRG not a File Type. Didn't
realize Photoshop had it's own File type for images. My hope is for
PhotoCD support but It doesn't look good, I got a PhotoCD ACCESS Software
CD and my CDTV/A3000 won't even give me a Directory.
