Hello,
I recieved the latest Imagine Newsletter (Winter 92/93 issue) and would
like to say thanks for keeping me informed.
The digital black box for single frame recording sounds very good. A
definate leap in technology. Does it mean that we could use The Dream
Machine to single frame to the top of the line semipro VCRs such as the
Panasonic AG1960 ??
BTW I guess that it still takes USD250.00 to upgrade fron Turbo Silver to
Imagine 2.00
Thanks again

Laurie, you're correct about the digital recording. Assuming you dump
everything to the drive's box, its realtime output could be recorded onto any
format, regardless of the quality of the deck. This is supposedly what the
EditMaster does. I'll believe it when I see it.
Upgrades to Imagine 2.0 from Turbo Silver continue to be $250. Although you
might find a better deal on Imagine 2.0 via mail order. (Don't tell Impulse I
said that! 🙂 ) –Rick Rodriguez
Rick, Tell us more about this "Black Box". I haven't gotten my newsletter yet,
but from the tantalizing tidbits I've heard in your message and the prefious
message, this sounds very interesting. I've been drooling over the DMI
Editmaster since I first heard about it. So please tell us all about this
"Black Box"! Thanks In Advance, Terry Tabor
Rick,
I picked up on your thread a little late. What is a "digital black box"? Who
makes it?
BTW Has Impulse released the Morphus stuff yet? How do I get the Impulse
newsletter?
And of course, the obligatory, "When will Imagine 3.0 be out for the Amiga"?
Matt
Impulse is currently working on a digital video recorder…er, make that black
box, 'cause I'm not sure you could call it a digital video recorder. Anyway,
Impulse is working on a box that would allow you to forego single frame
recording to standard tape. You dump your animation onto this box (which has a
HUGE drive) and the thing plays back your animation in real time, which you
then can dump to even the lowest form of video recorder. I have no idea when
this device will see its release.
Morphus is out and can be ordered directly from Impulse or at your local
dealer.
If you're a registered user, the newsletter should be arriving shortly. Got
mine yesterday.
Imagine 3.0 will be out sometime before summer. We hope. –Rick
Has the "Global Background/Fog" bug been fixed? I only recently ran into
this problem since I RARELY use a background while rendering but in the
case of a Student film I'm doing the SFX for I wanted to use a nice
Starfield image instead of imagines Star Generator. I have a FOG object
as
the EXHAUST and with the Global Background the image doesn't appear.
Now I know why I prefer to composite the backgrounds in using Adpro's
Alpha loader hehehehehehehe
Hopefully, 3.0 will swat all known bugs. Compositing backgrounds was a last
minute addition to the program. 3.0's new post production editor will handle
image compositing. –Rick
Thanx for the info Rick.
Thanks for the update!
Matt
Hey…
What is this about a digital black box for single frame recording? Is
this something that Impulse is working on, or is it some fantasy?
Jonathan, via AutoPilot // Only Amiga makes
\\// it possible…
It's as real as anything is while its on the drawing board, but the same folks
who brought you the Firecracker say it will be done shortly, so I believe 'em!
–Rick
Rick, this black box has a HD in it that holds the anim frames, can you
access the HD as a regular one or is it only used by the Black Box?
Btw, I have upgraded from Turbo Silver 3.0 when Imagine .9 was released
and I have NEVER received a newsletter, I have called several times and I
am on the list but never get them. A friend of mine makes photo-copies for
me so I won't be left in the dark.

Don't feel bad Tony, I've never recieved a newsletter either. I never even
registered my Turbo Silver 3.0 since I bought Imagine approx 1 week later
and DID Register that. I got version 1.1 of Imagine first then upgraded to
2.0 BTW If it's here GET Paul Gerhardt's Warp Bee object. it is QUITE
nice. I just got it off Genie and rendered a test scene.
Quick question about Anti Alias settings in Imagine 2.0
The Closer to 0 is the more or less Anti Aliasing? My default was set to
30.
The lower the number, the greater the antialiasing. In other words, 255 has no
antialiasing and 0 is maximum. I find that 8 gives nice results and a minimal
time penalty. –Rick
Thanx for the Anti-aliasing # info. I was using the Default 30 till
yesterday when I set it to 5. I'll try a setting of 8.
Personally I didn't notice much of a difference.
I guess I'll have to do a side by side image inspection to see it tho.
I am going to d/l the Warp Bee right now and check it out.
As far as Anti-Alias goes, 0 is the most and 255 is the least amount of
anti-alias. The default is 30 but can easily be changed to whatever you
want. I have found that anything under 10 is really not needed, just takes
longer to render. But for a Quickrender I would use 255, as it is the
fastest.

Thanx for the info on the Anti Alias setting.
