Amiga 1000, Room?

I would like to know if it is possible to fit an Insider II board with 1.5
megs of RAM an AdIDE controller and a 3.5 inch IDE hard drive, the
Kwickstart II ROM board, and a MicroBotics VXL-30 68030 Accelerator board
into a stock Amiga 1000. If not, how much from the above list can I sqeeze
in under the hood with the RF Shield removed?
Just a guess, but you might be able to use all except the controller and
hard drive. Just looking at the VXL board it looks like you might have to
do the same thing as with the CSA MMR. Go to half height internal. The RF
shield was the first thing to get chopped up in my 1000. I have a Spirit
board and an AdSpeed.
Richard
Well, I have already removed the RF shield, since I would need to do it
eventually to upgrade it easily. WHere did you see the VXL board, and does
it just plug into the processor socket?
I am just going by the picture in AW. It looks like the board would extend
over the drive and some of the kickstart board. If it fits inside without
changing the drive I would be interested.
Richard
Although, you could possibly put a shuffle board in where the drive is. I
haven't seen a picture of it yet. What issue of AW was it in?
It was the January issue. It was almost a full page ad, witha very good
picture of the board. If you look on the picture you can see where it plugs
in the CPU socket. Going by that the board should extend over the drive,
part of the kickstart board, and possibly out to the osc. box on the
motherboard. I am just going by the color picture in the ad, I could be
wrong.
Richard
I saw that pic. I have been reading some of the articles, and it looks
like the Mega-Midget accelerator might be better. Well, I am considering
ordering a Rejuvenator with a 2 meg Agnus, with 2 megs of ram You can get a
KickStart switching board for the juvy board also, which is cheaper than
DBK's board.
I have had a Rejuvenator for a little over a year and it's works great. I
just added the 2.0 ROM and am adding the ECS Denise next week. The 2M Agnus
should be added in a few months. I know the MMR will work with the Rej.
because CSA offered to install it when I was asking them about the MMR for
the 1000. I might change from the Adspeed which I have now to the Supra
Turbo 60. But the Supra is still in testing. For 1000s the Rej. is the way
to go.
Richard
Do you have a ROM switcher, or did you just throw in 2.0 in place of 1.3? I
have 1.3 in ROM, and am just awaiting the arrival of the board. $575 for
the board with a 2 meg Agnus, and 2 megs of RAM. What is the Supra Turbo
60? I wouldn't trust anything from Supra because I had a Hard Drive that
they made for the Atari ST, and it died, and they gave me the round-a-bout
about repairing it. I had to pay, then it died again, inside the warrenty.
I sent it back to them, and they called me 2 months later saying they
couldn't do anything because it was out of warrenty. Have you read about
the replacement motherboard that Phoenix in AUssie makes for the A1000?
Keith, perhaps you can share with us all that you know about that board?
If you are refering to the Rejuvenator board, I haven't received it yet.
It has (The one I ordered) a 2 meg Agnus, and 2 megs of Chip RAM, and is
compatible with the new ECS Denise. It has a place for a KickStart ROM,
and they also have a ROM switcher board avalible for it for about $60 so
you can have 1.3 and 2.0.
I just swapped out the 1.3 ROM for the 2.0 ROM. I may at some point get the
2 ROM board. But right now I am too much exploring 2.0 to think about
running anything under 1.3. I have a Supra hard drive and it has worked
fine. I read about the Supra Turbo 60 in AC. It's a 68000 that runs at 25
mhz. The salesman could not tell me too much because it's still testing.
The only thing I am really unhappy about Supra is the fact I still have to
boot from a floppy. I have an autoboot ROM chip BUT NOWHERE TO BUT THE
SILLY THING. Once again support fot the 1000 has dissapered from another
company.
Richard
Dataflyer, I believe, has just released a newe HD for the 1000, that will
take SIMMs, although I am not 100% sure if it does. I have seen ads in Ami
World as it being new. I think I will get an AdIDE, if I get an HD, for
the Ami 1000. Maybe even a GVP drive for the 500, but that might cover one
of my joystick ports.
