I'm a complete Amgiga beginner and need help diagonsing what is probably a dumb problem. My floppy drive is dead. When I first got this (reconditioned) 2000 I powered it up to make sure it had survived shipping, which it did. With no boards installed- it booted from the floppy ok. Then I installed a MegaChip and FlickerFree video. In the process of taking the power supply assembly out a couple of times I think I may have at one time put in the floppy drive ribbon cable wrong. If I did, is it possible to damage the controller or drive? The floppy drive doesn't work now. I have a known working system disk in there but it won't access it. Only a steady glow of the floppy access light. What can I do?? Also, can anyone recommend a good reference on the basics of Amiga? Really basic stuff like 'where the startup sequence goes'. Thank you in advance. Scott

Scott, The ribbon connector on the A2000 has a key in it. Look at the connector and you will see that the female connector already has one pin inserted in one of the openings. On the motherboard you will note that the male header has one missing pin. That pin is the one you see in the female connector. Check and make sure you have matched up the connector correctly. I don't see how you could have inserted the connector incorrectly as the pin already inserted would block your attempt at inserting it wrong. I believe it would take some extra force to put it on wrong, seeing that the extra pin has no where to go and you'd either bend the pins on the motherboard or somehow force another pin to slide in alongside the key pin. Chris, Thanks for your reply. I thought that those connectors should have some kind of key device. One of the cable I'm using has those embedded pins and the other doesn't. Anyway, by more methodical experimenting I found the combination that works. I do appreciate your taking the time to reply. Scott
