welcome back Gary, i ahve been in contact with matsuba and intel and i think a
guy named gary is going to contact you regarding 3ds from matsuba. anyway my
research into the p5 thing has been interesting at least<g>. ii find myself in
a kind of catch 22 , i need 5 more systems (486/66's) to handel the load i'm
doing , and i'm caught in to waiting for the pentium p5 (60 mhz first, 66
following , and finally a 100 mhz all dual processinging.) what is the MAJOR
question is will 3ds rel 3 support the dual pentium processors?. i know , i
know you will rel. no info on future rel's but please how about a very suttal
hint<g>. i'm about to go with 5 of matsuba's machines with the 486/66 modual
and will be able to upgrade to a dual processor pentium (60/66/100) in the
future. but the big question is WILL 3dsr3 support the pentium chip's (dual [.

If Gary can't answer that, ask Phar lap about support for multiprocessors. It's
actually up to them (OS) rather than Gary (APP). Unless, of course, NT is on
the horizon. Multiprocessors will accomplish nothing under DOS…
You actually think Intel is going to release the Pentium chip sometime soon? I
wouldn't hold your breath. At Comdex, I was talking to a couple different reps.
and since the sales of the 486 continue to grow, their attitude seemed to be
"Why introduce something new?!" I'd tend to agree with them as they have the
market on chips…I could live with 100Mhz though 😉

PMJI guys, but I heard recently on _fairly_ good authority that Intel is going
to start shipping a clock *tripled* 99mhz 486 in the near future. Seems that
between the economic issues and the heat problems with the DX2 100 that this
just may be the next jump in processor speed…and the 33mhz bus speed is
evidently the one deemed most upgradeable.

I read an article to this effect in INFOWORLD last week, but the instigators
were INTEL's competitors, not INTEL. The story said they were (SURPRISE!)
trying to horn in on INTEL's market dominance.
{Reminds me of an article I clipped out of a 1979 newspaper saying that, after
two years' study, a scientific group was *tentatively* suggesting that sharks
who attack humans are seeking food! Gawd it almost makes you wanna turn

I believe Alan is right about the 486/99. Their is an article in this months
COMPUTER SHOPPER about the release of the 99mhz chips.

that's great. So it's intended as a plug-in replacement for 33 boards, huh? If
so, I just happen to have 2 33's begging for more power <g>.

As you know, I can't even hint about what 3DSr3 will do, but as Gus said, if
you want _dual_ processor support, you've got to be running under an operating
system that supports multiple simultaneous processors.
Regardless… I'm SURE you're going to be very happy with r3. We've been
exceeding our own (very high) expectations.
