#Spurt and laser blasts
4 messages in this thread
Okay, since Mike Morrison doesn't seem to be around to answer my
message, I'll ask ALL here. If you got the March issue of CGW, you may have
noticed two things regarding 3D Studio: A Review by Mike, and an advertisement
for 3D Studio showing off the IPAS capabilities. Concerning Mike's review,
there's a picture in there showing a starship battle scene. It notes that the
"laser blasts" are created using spurt. Every time I try to use Spurt, I
always get a continuous "stream" of particles — not short "blasts" (like seen
in the picture).. can anyone explain to me how this is accomplished?
Concerning the ad (which was quite nice BTW! — who did it??), How in
the world did they get just that one part of the roof to explode? Doesn't
"EXPLOD_I" explode an entire object. Also, I'd be VERY curious to know how
the fire effect was achieved? Rain? Spurt? Glow? How?? (It's at times like
these I wish I had a special effects tricks book! <g>)
— Steve, thanks anyone
Steven,
Check your email. I've sent you a small sample 3ds file I created to
demonstrate creating "laser bursts" using the SPURT IPAS module. I don't know
if this is exactly what you're looking. It's low on detail but it was pretty
easy and I whipped it together in about 10 minutes.
Let me know if this helps.
Regards,
Danny…
Wow.. That was fast! Thanks for the sample file! I'm sure it will help
a lot! Thanks again!

Well, heck, I'm also looking how to achieve that "laser blast" look with the
SPURT IPAS. Think you can send me that file as well? Thanks!
