Some time ago in a message here you mentioned that you have a switchbox to
switch video input from your VGA card to your Amiga. Where can I get
ahold one? I have tried several computer stores in my area, and they have
never heard of such an animal. One store told me that a simple A-B switch
won't work, because the monitor cables carry power. What do you use?

Standard VGA 15 pin connections don't carry any real power, just the red,
blue and green signals, some grounds and synch signals. I use a regular
A-B switch box to switch between my VGA on my BB and A2320 Display
Enhancer on the Amiga side. This switchbox has 15 pin VGA style
connectors, so I assume it is intended for monitor switching. I bought
mine from Elite Micorcomputers (908-541-4214) for $18.00. You will need a
couple VGA cables too.
If you have a Vortex BB, they have Monitor master, which is a switchbox
that plugs into their BB and via keyboard hotkey you can switch the VGA
display and acitivate the input handler for the BB. Very convenient, but
cost over $100.00 (I think). You must have a Vortex board for Monitor
Master to work though.

I've seen the Vortex monitor switch, and if it wasn't for the fact that it
requires their BB to use I'd have bought it. It is a very nicely made
unit, and if it'd have worked with 2 seperate systems (like I have) it'd
be here now.

You do know that the CBM 386 BB has a four pin DIN connector "for future
external control options". Dave at EMC said he tried to get CBM to give
him the specs on how to control this port to see if he could work out a
similar solution. Of course, CBM wouldn't give it up…

The 4 pin mini-din connector on the back of the 386/486 is ment for a device
like the monitor master….but of course when I called C= to get help for
designing such a product…."well C= dosen't want anything made for that yet,
so we're not publishing the data for it"

Thanks for the info. One of the computer stores I talked to told me I
would fry my monitor if I used a standard A-B switch. I have a 1960
monitor, and an A2386 BB. I presume if the switch works for you, it
should also work for me. I will give Elite a call.

I think Dave Cinege at EMC sells the switch box and the cables for it.

My local repair shop made me what amounts to a simple A-B switchbox, and
it works fine. Some computer stores carry them, though, because I've seen
them. Lots of people are using them now. I've also got a different sort of
switch (sensor) to handle input to my printer, as I have it hooked up to
LPT2 on the PC side. Hope this is helpful…..Nancy
