This message concerns using 3ds2 to create realistic or simulated fire. Any suggestions? Can the new IPAS routines help? Thank you, McDowell Owens – Derek Nolen Concerning 3ds2, any suggestions on creating realstic or simulated fire? Can any of the new IPAS routines help? Thank you

The IPAS routines will definitely help you do this. You need to use both rain and glow IPAS routines. Assign the object (to which you assigned the rain) an orange color. Then in video post use glow. Jamie Clay can give you more specifics about it. I'll ask to get on CIS and explain it more in depth. He did a really good looking fire a while back. Yann Bertaud – I.D.L. Autodesk.

In addition to the rain and glow routines that Yann mentioned, the smoke.sxp from Disk #2 can make great fire effects. – G

Has anyone posted any examples of fire using either the smoke routine or a combination of rain and glow? I've been experimenting with creating fire without much success. 🙁 Some pointers would be most welcome. Thanks, Danny…

If I could get Jamie Clay to upload a subset of the image he did for this months CGW ad, with the exploding farmhouse, it would be helpful (in .PRJ format, anyway). Maybe YannB can squeeze it out of him… Yann? – G

Thanks Gary, that would be a great example. Actually, it's interesting that you should pick that particular image. Steven Lee and I have spent the last couple of says exchanging email regarding that picture. Steven had asked me to analyse the image and tell him how I thought certain effects were accomplished. Kind of a reverse-engineering process. It was a learning process for both of us, I think. Anyway, now I'll know whether my analysis was correct or not. BTW, has Garth Chouteau spoken to you about a magazine review lately? <g> Thanks again, Danny…
