I am currently using a NEC-84 drive and just heard about Multi-session capability. What is Multi-session? Is the NEC-84 capable of it? Thanks Vince

Vince: Multi-session is explained in CDFAQ.TXT in Lib#1 and in KODAK.TXT in Lib #7. The latter also lists all the Photo-CD compatible files. Best – Rich Bowers

Vince, Multi session capability refers to a drive's ability, or lack of, to read multiple session photo CD format CDs. I know that NEC-84 internal double speed drive can do single session, but I don't think that the multisession version has come out yet. The difference in capabilities is that the multisession can read multiple sessions of photo CD data on a disk, and the single session can read only one session. Example: you send 1 roll of film to be xfered onto CD in photo CD format. CD comes back with 1 session on it. NEC-84 single session can read all the pictures on the CD. Next week, you send that original CD back, with a new roll of film, and tell them to add another session on the CD you send. You get it back and unless your drive can do multi session, you will only be able to read the first roll of pictures off of it.

Evan, Thanks for the info. I called NEC and they told me that my drive is not multi-session. I have to wait for a few months before they can tell me if there is an exchange program for this drive. Vince
