#Chinon CD Roms

Has anyone had any experience, good or bad, with Chinon drives in general, or
the model 435 (internal) specifically. I would like to get some feedback
before I purchase. My use would be strictly home/education.
Is SCSI the way to go? It just seems to have more flexibility, expansion
capabilities. Is this true?
I plan on plugging the drive into a SCSI connection on a sound card, saving a
slot. I understand Aztech makes a decent card w/optional SCSI connection —
the Sound Galaxy NX Pro. Any advice/experience with that product or
combination of products?

It is my opinuon(sp) that you should stay as far away from Chinon as possible.
I purchased a 431 in November and had nothing but problems with it. Chinon's
tech support had know idea what the problem was a kept on pointing fingers. It
took over a month to finally get a tech support engineer to admit there was a
problem. I was lucky that the company I purchased the drive from was able to
trade me for a Texel.
I have had NO problems with the Texel.
Stay as far a way from Chinon as you can.

that's exactly the kind of stuff I want to avoid. Sorry to hear you had the

Exactly the same experience with Chinon. I have had two 431's die
completely inthe past two and a half years. Each one was just out of warranty.
Chinon tech support was worthless.
