I bought myself a CD-ROM today. No one was more surprised than I at how easy
the gadget was to install. Then came the software installation. Again, no
problem. At the end of the process, still with no glitches, I typed "MEM/C",
just to see how much damage had been done. I almost fell off of my chair when
I saw my available memory go from 612K down (WAY down) to about 520K. Is this
normal?! If it is, has anyone figured a way around it? I'm using 386Max v.6
and it sure hasn't helped.

One thing you might be able to do is to use /E on the MSCDEX to put its buffers
into expanded mem. Other than that, fiddling with 386max MAXIMIZE is the only
other way I know to free up low mem.

Well I'm using QEMM v6.02 with Stacker and MSCDEX and other stuff loaded
high, and I get 623,xxx bytes in a Windows DOS box. I aint running SMARTDRV
though.
