#Color Hand Scanner
10 messages in this thread
Dom,
We'll be introducing the New CS-6000 Color Hand Scanner at the New York World
of Amiga show!
Pending FCC approval, we should begin shipping April 19th.
Not only is this the first 18bit color hand scanner for the Amiga, but also the
first TRUE Greyscale Hand Scanner as well.
Thanks for your interest. Kevin Mitchell / Migraph, Inc.
Kevin,
What does the pricing on the CS-6000 look like, right now?
Jonathan, via AutoPilot // Only Amiga makes
\\// it possible…
Kevin,
I live in NY and I'll be at the show. Will you be taking advance orders
and offering a show discount on the CS-6000?

Kevin,
Would you please tell me more about your hand scanner? What connector
does it use? Do you have a file describing it more fully that you could
upload to the library? I'm sure lots of our members would like to read
more about it.

Betty, I found this file in Lib4 on this forum last week:
[72230,613] CS6000.TXT/Asc Bytes: 3098, Count: 1, 24-Feb-93
Title : Migraph's new color hand scanner
Keywords: SCANNER COLOR MIGRAPH
This file contains information about Migraph's new color hand scanner.
Hi-lites from the file: 4 inch wide scan window, up to 262,144 colors, 64 true
greyscale levels, connects to the parallel port, $399 thru 4/30/93.
Craig
Thanks, Craig. I don't know how I missed that one, but I did.

Kevin, I have read your file CS6000.txt. I have recently acquired my first
Amiga, an A1200, after years of using an XT Clone. Your Scanner sounds like a
device I would like to add to my Amiga.
Is there/will there be OCR software for your scanner? Or are there other
utility programs that performs OCR form graphics files?
Also, your Color Scanner sounds very much like the Mustek M-6000 CG in the
Winter '93 DAK Catalog. Its price is $249 for IBM AT and up computers.
_Please_ do not misunderstand me! I am _not_ bashing your price. I just am
wondering why such a big price difference in a similar products across
platforms?
Craig
Craig:
I'm not from Migraph, but here's a couple of answers to your questions:
First, congratulations on joining the Amiga crowd! I'll be you'll see a
BIG difference working on an Amiga versus a clone. BIG, BIG difference!
Migraph does have OCR for the Amiga (two, actually). One is called OCR,
Jr., I don't know what it is (probably a stripped down version of the
other OCR). There have been some complaints about its power versus PC
versions, but Migraph's OCR completely meets my needs. And frankly, its
better than the OCR our PCs use at work. I don't know exactly what you
mean by "performs OCR form graphics files", unless that's a typo
("from"?), but the OCR will read IFF graphic files.
BTW, Migraph has excellent user support. I reported a Touch-Up bug (on my
registration card, no less!) and the programmer was on the phone to me the
next week! They're just nice people!
Nick, Thanks for your reply. I have not heard from Migraph yet. By
the way that is a typo about the "OCR form graphics files" should
have been "from". I have another question about scanners. If your
are scanning something wider than the scanner, can you scan it in two
or more passes and "join" them together without getting "seams" or
overlapes?
I have not done much with the Amiga yet. I am still waiting for FinalCopy and
the drawing program to come from C=.
Craig:
Yes, you can scan something wider than the scanner and join them (I
believe Migraph has a program called MergeIt that does just that), but I
haven't done that yet. I'd also pick up a gizzmo called Scan:Align
(available at Software Etc.) that is a "holder" for the scanned art/page
and keeps the scan straight. Makes the OCR more efficent, although I have
been amazed at how well (not 100%, but well) it can read a fairly crooked
line.
