Does anybody know if its possible to get any of the Co-Pro emulators to
work with the 386 BB?.
I have tried Q387 but it appears not to like the EMM, anybody know a way
of running the Windows emm386 file?

I recently tried to run the FRANKE 387 emmulator for use with Mathamatica
for windows. It works, sort of. For some reason mathematica goes all
flakey, and a get an 1800 point font notebook window. I have no idea what
could be causing that.

I have'nt seen FRANKE 387, is it available on CIS?. Do you have
to run the Janus EMM?. If I could get the DOS5 EMM386.EXE file to run I
think that Q387 would run fine.

If you want, I will binary Email you Franke 387. I am checking with Dave
at EMC to see about clocking my Board at 25MHZ so I can run an emmulator
or maybe a real 387.

I found a version of FRANKE on CIS, but when its running I cant
start Windows, it just freezes. I also tried a 8087 emulator that did the
same. I am assuming that I dont have things set up properly yet.
I am thinking that it would be easier to get a "real" Co-Pro, do you know
if I can use one of those Cyrix 387 chips?…..they appear to be quite
cheap here at the moment.
I was hoping to be up my 25 to a 33 mhz, but until its running the way I
want it to I will give that a miss.

You are running a standard 386SX BB yes? Well, I am not sure if you can
run the Cyrix coprocessor or not. Maybe someone else knows.

Yep I have the CBM 386/ 25mhz….it has a Co-Pro socket but I
dont know if
1. A Cyrix Co-Pro will work alongside an Intel CPU
2. What the the pin configuration of the BB socket is called
3. Whether or not a Cyrix co-pro can be purchased with the above pin
config

I think Dave from EMC said that cyrix co-processor would work just fine
with the 386SX bridgeboard.
Don't use that program! It shouldn't have been on your distribution disk.
NO FPU support (hardware or software) is availible when your running at 33MHz.

I remember you saying that the board had to be clocked at 25 MHz to use a
coprocessor. I assumed this meant selecting LOW in the SYSTEM SPEED block
of BBSetup.
If not, how does one clock the board to 25MHZ. Does the crystal have to be
replaced?
You have to change the 66MHz crystal, to a 50MHz crystal. It's socketed…..and
availible to you free.

Ok great. Could you send along a 50 Hz crystal. I think I will be running
a few programs that need a coprocessor.

BTW-When I select SYSTEM SPEED LOW, what am I running at. I know it slows

Also,
If I decide to get a real coprocessor, I assume I must get a Cyrix one. I
think I would do that anyway, as they are cheaper, but just wanted to know
of a Cyrix would work.
One more thing. I noticed something interesting with the Multifunction
card. An included program, called RapidBios (both in .sys and .com
version) causes problems with BBSetup. If you run BBSetup with Rapidbio
active, the date and time do not appear. All hardrive info is messed up
and you can't select the base memory / on board ext memory etc. The first
dozen or so time I booted with Rapidbio active, it didn't really hurt
anything. But at one point a lost all use of extended memory (it was at
this point that I troubleshot and found out Rapidbio was the culprit). I
was able to set everything back up ok after removing Rapidbio though.
Do you know if there is a workarround for this?
Hmmmm….never heard that one before….might want to get a hold of a generic
bios program…..it might also be that it is conflicting with the setup…..try
turning VGA shadow off, and running rapidbios.
