How about a local User Group? Perhaps someone in a local group has a 1200
to demonstrate.
I have fairly low confidence in local dealers. (Yes there are some great
ones out there, but there are just so few of them!)
In the meantime, since 1987, magazines have propelled me into purchases on
the Amiga. AW and AA have covered several items be it hardware or
software, which have been my primary source of info. Learn it on your own
and you won't have to depend on the unknowledgeable sales people.
Therefore, 99% of my Amiga purchases have been through mailorder.
Mailorder sales people have been more informative than local sales people.
Also, I have saved a tremendous amount of $$$$$ by buying though
mailorder.
Check out a local User Group would be your best bet…IMHO.
You will be happy with the Amiga once you start buying the expensive
IBM/MAC software. (you can always get a bridgeboard if you do find IBM
software you prefer.)
Amiga makes it possible.!!!!!!

Patrick: That's a good idea… I know of one group that meets once a
month; maybe we'll drop in on one of their Saturday meetings. I agree that
AW & AA and users are really the way to go to learn about the Amiga. Mail
order definitely saves money most of the time! I expect more out of the
dealer we saw, however, because all they sell are Amigas. Makes me wonder
how they keep afloat.
Although I have the 'perfect' system for multi-platform stuff, I have
personally found little or no need for me to buy a bridgeboard for PCs or
MACs. The software I use on the Ami suits me very well. I just wish I had
a better database, and a more intuitive financial program (like Quicken).

Which database program do you own?
I own SuperBase IV and have yet to limited in what I can do….

Patrick: I presently use the database that comes in the Gold Disk
Office package, which I believe is called "Office". It is a rather
rough-hewn program, to say the least, as it took me several tries to
get a stable working database going. It also likes to spawn a whole
bunch of files called "MemberFile.db.info.info.info" Note the three
.info extensions. It is awkward to use. I may just get the Union to
pay for Superbase IV for the record keeping, as I have heard good
things about it… and I am sick of hoping the Office program won't
trash the database template if I add or remove a record….

I've used SuperBase IV for approximately 2-3 years. I just don't use all
the scripts that one can perform with it. Voted the best, IMHO.
