Runabout Anim?

I'm curious, I have created a 150 frame anim using Imagine and Compiled it DOWN to 736*241 rez DCTV via ADAM. My question is this, since it is a approx 900K LHA and over 1 megs UN LHA'ed would anybody DL it ? or would it be a waste of time to Upload this low rez anim? I personally feel it would be a WASTE and a single JPEG STILL at Higher REZ would be a better representaion of the Model I'm working on for genereal release. What are YOUR thoughts folks? it's a sorta DS9 Runabout Shuttle like object BTW with some Essence Textures used. I'll be uploading the Model in Imagine format in a few days too. I'll upload an LW3D version too if anyone wants it. Realtively Simple object but looks pretty good with the Textures applied

I would D/l it if it was in Ham8 mode. Ben, Leigh's computers

Since I'm AGA Less creating a Ham8 anim is somewhat pointless currently. The anim in question is a DCTV anim. Also since yer a fellow NYer I'm sure I could snail mail it to ya or even drop it by the Store. You guys still on 86th st and 3rd Ave or so in Manhatten correct? Now if you'd be willing to give me a "LOANER" A1200 with a HD I'd be more than Happy to fill the HD with Anims for you to use for Demoes in the Store when I return the 1200 in a week or 3. Or perhaps we can work out a Deal where I do it in the Store. Email me or Call me at Midgard Graphics 718-714-1423 If you are open Sundays it'd probably be easiest for me. Tho a Saturday is Harder I could probably do it.

I'm Brooklyn Born and Bred. I was also a PLAYER of RPG's Extensively and a Avid film Viewer so I did tend to incorporate shall we say Non Brooklyn sounding speech patterns tho my Girl Friends Nieces get a Good Laugh out of my Brooklyn Accent everytime we Visit them. They Espescially enjoy when I say Squirrel and Cheesburger for some odd reason. I wonder why? I tend to pronounce Squirrel as Squirl hehehehehehe, hope to see ya at WOC Later Dude (PS an Avid Fan of Low Budget California Based Horror)

There was a newsbit on Headline News about a class in NY that taught Brooklynites how to speak without their accents. It was hilarious listening to them trying to say "there's a flaw in the floor." 🙂

C'mon der's a Flaw in da Flaw, now dat wuzn't so bad wuz it? Hey gimme suma deese and suma dose. Don't forget to wave your hands wildly as you say this for the TRUE Brooklyn "LOOK and SOUND" hahahahahahahaha Back to Amiga Topics, my USS Triad object for Imagine is nearly complete. Just need to add some decals to it for Call letters and Ship name. I'm uploading it complete with Landing "Pads" that can be articualted so they look like they are absorbing the load when the ship lands. They are sorta "Scissor" based. Some folks will probably just delete them from the object. I'm also thinking of adding some Blinking red Lights

Peter, Hmmmm…..you may be interested then in a local (NZ) "splatter" movie that is apparently doing well. I just cant recall the name of it. It is the second one for the the bloke who made it. The previous one was about aliens who harvested "us" for their own local Burger chain….. Laurie Carroll AKL NZ Longdistance Autopilot

The movie about harvesting people for their "Burger" chain is probably "Seedpeople" from Full Moon. I think I just read about a new Splatter film from New Zealand in the last issue of Fangoria.

We are open Sundays, but as for a loaner 1200… well they've sold so well that we can't even keep a demo unit! Ben, Leigh's Computers
#27601From: Peter GreciMar 14, 1993 1:27 PM
Thats good to hear that ye've been selling 1200's like Crazy. Do you have a A4000 for Demoing? Or were these anims for yer own use? If you have Adpro and Imagemaster on the Demo machine I'll be happy to come in one sunday and convert some anims to Ham8. Or I could send ya some Scenes for Imagine 2.0 for you to render and then you could Convert them tpo AGA yerselves. BTW I didn't REALLY expect to get a demo unit hehehehehehe but you hafta admit it was worth a try eh? /s

No, Peter. I had to pass on WOCA though I wanted to go. I am going to be in NYC from 9 April to 17 April for the start of Peace Run '93 and some coordinating effort with Peace Runs International. Somehow or other I always end up as the California Central Coast Coordinator for the Peace Run. I try to be in NYC for the start to get some planning done, pick up publicity material and get some inspiration to hold me until the run shows up in my neck of the woods about mid June. wmc – via Autopilot!
#27471From: Erik FlomMar 10, 1993 9:28 PM
The best thing you could do would be to upload the LW scene & imagine scenes and let the people render it themselves. If it'll take an evening to render, it's worth the 2 min DL (or far less, dep. on speed) for the scene file. (Even counting AC bills, it'd be cheaper for the end user than DL'ing the whole Anim.) (This is especially true, since [as true 3-D junkies] we'd be DL'ing the object anyway, right? :^) Sounds good, add the scenes to the object files & let us render . . . Keep On Toastin' Erik Flom
#27507From: Peter GreciMar 11, 1993 5:54 PM
I already had planned on doing that Erik. Including a Staging File with the Object I mean so anyone with Imagine who DL's the new Starship object I'm ULing will be able to instantly be able to get a Decent looking Anim out of it. I'm going to UL a 256 color GIF of it as well so folks can take a quick gander at the UNFINISHED Model. I still want to add Exhaust via Essence Texture mapped WEDGE of POWER and Some Lettering to the Object. As to ULing a Scen File for Lightwave It'll be a while for that since I have to beg access to my assosciates Toaster since I currently haven't taken the Plunge as yet.
#27690From: Erik FlomMar 17, 1993 7:11 PM
Sounds good. Much better than UL'ing a huge ANIM file that'll get played once. I look forward to checking it out. Erik Flom
#27744From: Peter GreciMar 18, 1993 5:50 PM
Yea, if you'd have told me 3 or 4 years ago that I'd be creating anims that were between 4 and 11 Megs in size I'd have thought you Daft, Now I do it regularly. Will UL the still JPEG soon, still busily working on "We Were Not Alone" Student Film.
#27523From: Anthony RamirezMar 11, 1993 10:59 PM
You know something I have been thinking about lately is that there are lots of anims and objects but very few `scenes' which include the object and (in a way) the animation, just needs rendering. This is an advantage because they can then render it to whatever mode they want, HAM8, DCTV, 24-bit, Lo-Res, Super-Lo-Res(5*5), ect… I do alot of d/l'ing but would d/l a jpeg alot `easier'. If I were you I would make a jpeg and a scene file (less textures) and that should make just about everyone happy. <<< Tony D. Tracer >>>
#27544From: Peter GreciMar 12, 1993 4:43 PM
Okey dokey Tony. Haven't seen ya in Amiga_Video much of late. Will be including Staging Files for Imagine with the objects I UL from now on.(If I remeber to hehehehehe)
#27673From: Anthony RamirezMar 17, 1993 3:45 PM
Yeah, I am still there (Amiga_Video) but I just get into the mood to leave messages every so often. I don't have anything that I would like to distribute but when I do I'll make sure to compress the staging files and directories. Like the Bodygirl.lha file that includes everything you need. <<< Tony D. Tracer >>>

I d/l'ed this file and render it with my toaster. Its by far the best woman.obj that I've seen. Not that I've seen ALOT :^) So far I've done a 120 frame simple fly-by anim, and it came out quite nicely when converted to DCTV anim7. I haven't gotten her to walk or Anything YET (Evil Grin). ….John
#27787From: Vance SchowalterMar 19, 1993 11:55 AM
So, what are your impressions of ANIM7? Personally, it's a dream come true. I only wish the support for it was in CanDo and AmigaVision. Oh, I suppose I could dig up a way, but I'd prefer it to be built-in. Vance
#27821From: Anthony RamirezMar 19, 1993 8:20 PM
As far as Anim-7 goes, I like it ALOT but I noticed that it isn't part of the IFF standard so it would seem that there will probably not be any support from commercial products that use the IFF standard. These will probably use the Anim-8 format which is similar to Anim-7 in some ways. <<< Tony D. Tracer >>>
#27866From: Kermit WoodallMar 20, 1993 8:24 AM
ANIM-7 is being registered as part of the IFF standard. It's also being implemented in commercial products which should be out in the near future. ANIM-8 isn't nearly as useful as ANIM-7. I've also heard that there is another new ANIM format, ANIM-H I believe, that will be registered with Commodore and it might be even more powerful. We're in new territory here, new anim formats are going to be developed for a while until the best one shakes out. Kermit Woodall
#27883From: Peter GreciMar 20, 1993 12:03 PM
Thats not a big problem tho Tony, after all Viewtek includes a prg to convert Anim-5 and anim-8 anims to anim-7 so even if no commercial products support it there's still a way to get it. Even Prg's like Amigavision could still use them tho inderectly via Arexx and Viewtek's player.

The reasno you probably see so few scene files is that it's such a bother to move an animation from one system to another. Picture trying to render an animation where Imagine on your system is in dh0:imagine and it was in dh3:3D/imagine on the system it was set up on. You'd get an error message on every object it tried to load on every frame. On my system I've got a standard set of assigns I use. They are: Objects: contains all objects Textures: contains all textures Imps: contains all Imagine projects Maps: contains all image, reflect, transparancy, and altitude maps When I move one of my projects to another system I just do the 4 assigns on the new system and I can get to rendering. Most people don't bother to set up their systems this way though, and it's a MAJOR bother to get their animations to work on another system.
#27674From: Anthony RamirezMar 17, 1993 3:45 PM
>The reasno you probably see so few scene files is that it's such a bother >to move an animation from one system to another. As long as you always use the current dir to load from then you won't have any problems transferring scenes over. I have 2 HDs and Imagine is on both, don't ask why, but when loading objects as long as I load it from the current dir as a base then there is no problems. The problem comes when you load an object using DH1: or Work: ect… if all the objects are within the X.imp/objects directory then you won't have any problems distributing it. I have a friend of mine that gave me one of his objects, a mini-sub, but I have a horrible time trying to render it since the brushmaps and textures are in different directories than mine. It has over 140 grouped objects with several different paths for the brushes (it is actually the same directory just used different naming), eg. Deep.Trench.imp/Objects/ or QH1:Imagine/Deep.Trench.imp/Objects/, anyway this particular problem is with the object itself and NOT the scene files. I am getting Glenn Lewis' TTDDD.lib since it has the ability to change the path for brushmaps and textures for the whole object and set it to what you need. >On my system I've got a standard set of assigns I use. They are: I don't use assigns simply cause I never bothered to, but it is a good idea. <<< Tony D. Tracer >>>
#27691From: Erik FlomMar 17, 1993 7:11 PM
Your assignments are an excellent solution to a problem I had when first selling scenes to Toaster owners. For several months now, I have been setting up all my scenes and objects using an assigned path '3D:' that corresponds to my Toaster/3D directory. Now, when I send out scenes on disk (or via modem), I have an installer script that checks for existence of a '3D:'. If it's not found, I check for a default 'DH0:Toaster/3D/' or a path supplied when invoking the script (from CLI or WB). Once I have found the path, the user is given an option of making the assignment permanent. This way, my clients don't have to do all the relocating of the files manually. (A daunting task for many of my clients. :^) Keep On Toastin' Erik Flom

Peter, unless the animation is something special, I think a well-chosen still, in hi-res, JPEGged, would probably show off your model just as well. And the smaller file size means more people would see your work. Blaq!
#27602From: Peter GreciMar 14, 1993 1:27 PM
I tend to agree with ya Bro. a JPEG is probably the best way to go.
