I have amiga 500 with kickstart 37.175 and workbench 37.67. I put
amigaguide.library in my libs so that I can use autopilot.help but it did
not work. I tried to see version of amigaguide.library by typeing version
amigaguide.library at shell prompt but it gives Error: could not open
amigaguide,library. I have checked that amigaguide.library in in libs.
What am I doing wrong?

I have the same kickstart and wb version as you. I also have
amigaguide.library in libs:. When I do a version I get 34.6. Where did
you get the amigaguide.library? How big is it?

I got it from amiga 1200 WB disk and size is 24800.

Gopal,
That version of amigaguide.library _requires_ the 3.0 kickstart. It
will not work with the 2.0 kickstart.

The only way that I know for an "end user" to get a 2.0-compatible
version of amigaguide.library is to purchase a software package that has
licensed it for distribution. I know that I received such a copy with
SAS/C 6.0, and I'm sure that other vendors are currently licensing it and
shipping it with their products.
Unfortunately, because Autopilot is only distributed via online
methods, AForums, Inc. would not be able to license amigaguide and
distribute it — the licenses from Commodore specifically prohibit online
distribution.

Commodore JUST released AmigaGuide as a freely-distributable program.
Download AG.LZH from Library 13 here in AmigaTech.

Thats the same size as my version of amigaguide.library.

Library names are CASE SENSITIVE.
It must be named: AmigaGuide.library _exactly_.
Mine is spelled amigaguide.library. All lowercase and it works great.

In my Libs: directory, it is spelled: AmigaGuide.library
but if I type VERSION AmigaGuide.library I get the 'can't find library'
error message, but if I type VERSION amigaguide.library it returns:
amigaguide.library version 33.1369
???

The shell is case insensitive and has ben from day 1 of the Amiga. However,
just to satisfy myself i tries
libs:>version AmigaGuide.library amigaguide.library 39.11
libs:>version amigaguide.library amigaguide.library 39.11
Have you checked to see if you have 2 versions in libs: ? Have you a broken
version? Have you got libs: assigned to 2 places?
Anyway, your version of the library seems very out of date, however I am
running WB3 etc so perhaps the version numbers reflect the Wb release although
I don't know.

Yup. Only one in there. AmigaGuide.library

I just tried the version command both ways, and both times I got a reply:
amigaguide.library version 39.11
So I guess the later one recognises both spellings.

Hmmm…interesting Mike. I have amigaguide.library in libs: and I can read the
RKMs' without any trouble at all. Where does it say file.library must be case
sensitive?

That's what I've been told (repeatedly) here. Maybe some clarification is
in order?
I thought all library names must be in lower case. I have not changed the
name, it is as it was on amiga 1200 WB disk in lower case.

What happens when you type "amigaguide ap:autopilot.help" in a shell?
Does it start amigaguide? If not do you have any other .guide documents
to try out besides the AutoPilot.HELP?

I get amigaguide unkown command. I do not have any other .guide documents.
It has been suggested that I have amigaguide.library version which only
works with kickstart 3.0. As I have kickstart 2.0, I need differnt
version. Does any one know how to get amigaguide.library for kickstart
2.0.

There are 2 associated files that have to go with amigaguide library. These
include amigaguide itself and amigaguide.datatype. If you don't have those then
it won't work. Anyway, I thought amigaguide came with WB3.0 only but perhaps it
comes 2.1 but I'm not sure.

amigaguide is in devs:datatypes and amigaguide.datatype is in
sys:Classes/datatypes

Its only available for 2.x with certain commercial s/w products. I got it
when I purchased Ami-Back Tools. (Didn't know it came with AmigaGuide,
but was pleasantly surprised to get it nonetheless!) 🙂
