What scanners do you supply control/driver software for? If the HP ScanJet
IIc is not on the list, are you planning to add it?

We currently support: Sharp JX100, JX300, JX450, JX600. Epson ES300C.
Phovos: 300C.
The HP ScanJet IIc will be supported shortly along with the Microtek 600z
and the Sharp JX320.

When considering the HP ScanJet IIc, the Microtek 600z and the Espon
ES300C, for use with your software/interface, which do you consider the
superior machine and why? And what is the Sharp JX320?
(it's purchase decision time, & while the Epson has gotten rave reviews
from Amiga-ites, using it with yuor software, Mac reviewers have tended to
recommend the Microtek)
BTW, re: the new support for the additional scanners… THANKS! You folk
help keep the Amiga up to speed in areas it often falls behind with regard
to third party support products.

I have not been impressed by any of the products Microtek has put out in
the past. I look forward to casting a critical eye on the 600z as it has
received from good press. Hewlett-Packard *always* makes good stuff. The
Epson is a very good scanner. The only grounds on which I could see it
being surpassed is age. It is the oldest of the four designs I've
mentioned. Perhaps the new scanners will contain benefits given by newer
technology. The JX320 promises to be a killer scanner. It is rumored to be
faster than the JX450, cheaper than the Hewlett-Packard, and has a
transparency option.

Thanks for your input. Sounds like the JX320 will have a street price of
about $1250 or so? Do you know when it and when your AdPro driver for it
will be available?
Can you explain what a 'transparency option' will do?

Most scanners will let you scan in anything except transperencies.
However, in the world of publishing and others, transperencies are
sometimes made of color pictures (think of it as a large slide). Scanners
that can scan these are extremely useful.

A transparency option is an additional widget which allows you to scan
slides and other transparent artwork. No other low cost flat bed has this
option. Our driver will be available soon. New scanners can be supported
within a very short time since our scanner control code is designed so
modularly.

Dr. M. did a GREAT job on the ADPRO 2 review… I found his point by point
approach extremely informative… lurkers on this msg: don't miss the
Dec'91 (vol 2 #8) of AVID… lots of good stuff, no fluff.

Whats this about a widget that allows scanning of transparent media …
and is it available for the es-300c? I was under the impression that since
scanners use reflected light that scanning a slide would be impossible
since slide and transparency viewing require transmitted light. A widget
to overcome this would be most welcome here!

I seem to recall the Epson having "true" 300 dpi scanning capability, with
"interpolation" to 600 dpi.
I presume the Microtek 600z is similar (purely deduction from the name).
Am I correct that the HP IIc is "true" 400 dpi, with "interpolation" to 800
dpi?
What is the corresponding resolution for the JX-320 ?

What is the Sharp JX320? Any chance that you folks can be talked into
writing a driver for a greyscale scanner? I just bought a used Canon
scanner (the one that GoldDisk sold) but the interface & scanning software
from GD only supports black & white, even though the scanner is capable of
doing greyscale. Thanks.
