Need 220v/50hz Power

Hi,
I'm planning to spend a year in Russia and want to take an Amiga
with me. I've been told that the little travel power converters
are for temporary use only; over the long haul and with prolonged
use they'll burn out and allow the equipment to be damaged. There-
fore a transformer has been recommended.
I got to thinking… would an Amiga power supply from the European
machines work with an American Amiga (the only diff is the power
supply, right?). Of course, this hinges on whether I can find a
power supply that matches that of Russia's power: 220v/50hz
Can any of my British or German cousins help me out here?

p.s. Aussies or any others can chime in too! (we're all in the Amiga
family<g>!)

I'd imagine you could just swap out power supplies with a 220v one
which I would imagine you could order from the UK.

The local "electronics" stores both here (NZ) and in Aussie probably sell
these gadgets. I bought one YEARS ago and it is a bit on the heavy side to
lug around. I will give them a call from work tommorrow (Mon 22nd) and get
back to you.
We run at 240v/50hz
PS be warned that you can be killed by this voltage if your body cant be
"chucked" clear by the shock. A bloke at work has been flung accross his
kitchen when painting around an outlet (cover off!!) and standing on the
stove.

Thanks for the info and the warning… the pictures of Russian
apartments I saw have the outlets higher on the wall than here in
the states (which are about 12 inches), so hopefully they'll be
out of reach from the kids.

You could try the Grapevine Group in New Jersey. They have been
advertising 220v power supplies in UK amiga magazines. their number is
1-800-292-7445.

One minor correction….
The Grapevine Group, Inc. is located in Suffern, New York. That is, however,
only a mile from New Jersey…so you were real close.

Hi Tim,
Scanning through a copy of Amiga Computing, you might try calling Evesham
Micros here in UK +44 386 765500 (sales) or +44 386 40303 (tech support). They
advertise an A500-type PSU for 39.95 UKP and take VISA. Not sure about
shipping, but this includes 17.5% VAT which you might not have to pay. We run
at 240V, but my 1200 PSU states 220/240V input, so it should be OK.
