I have a question concerning IPAS developing. I've come across a situation where I need to import 3D co-ordinates into the path in the Keyframer, but I'm not sure whether It's possible to manipulate the path with the developers Kit or not. This is quite urgent, so if someone could help me, it would be greatly appreciated! Thank you! Richard Baycroft, Mirage Graphics Inc.

At this time there is no way to deal with motion paths via IPAS. What you could do would be to convert the data points into a POLYLINE DXF definition (via AutoCAD or by whipping together some translator to take your data points and simply spit out a polyline as a DXF), then use PATH/GET/DISK in the key framer to assign the path. If you need information on the DXF File Format, it is available in the AutoCAD reference books, or, send me your mailing address and I can send it out to you.

I've been having a strange problem with the IPAS routines (axp's). They are not found by 3DS (2.01a) "Can't locate that program PROCESS\FIREWK_I.AXP" Yes, the paths and file names in the .set file are correct, there are no semi-colons in front of the lines, the .axp files are in the right place, and the intel versions are installed. Trying to access the axp's sometimes crashes the system as well. This may be related to a problem I've encountered with PACK3DS, it won't find any maps in the regular map path (3ds2\maps), but if I put the corresponding maps into a subdirectory (like \maps\temp -and put that path in the .set file) then they ARE found. I'd appreciate any ideas, Thanks, – Ron L.

You say the Intel versions are installed; I assume you are also using the Intel version of 3DS, not the Weitek version? If not, that could cause unpredicatble results. I notice also that it says it can not locate "PROCESS\FIREWK_I.AXP" rather than the full path name to the file. Try specifying the full path name to the file (for example, "c:\3ds2\process\firewk_i.axp".) Beyond that, you may need to address this problem to the Yost-ites (Yost Group 76702,413), since the IPAS boutique is their product rather than ours (meaning only that they know much more about it than I do).

Liz, Why are you putting the .AXP names in your 3DS.SET file? Only .PXP IPAS files should be specified in the external program section (USER-PROG1, etc.). AXP's are assigned to objects as part of their attributes. You might read pgs. C-15 and C-16 in the manual. Also, note that with PXP's, you should leave off the _I or _W and let 3DS pick the correct version. JKJ

As John says, axp's aren't accessed via the Program menu (only pxp's are). Axp's are only assigned via the Modify/Object/Attributes dialog (see the pages in the docs that John recommended for more information). – G
