#DL-Xpress Reboot?
8 messages in this thread
Jack,
Maybe you can help me out. We are running 3DS2 on a Gateway 2000 486 using the
local bus graphics card created for Gateway by ATi. This card shipped with
Vibrant's DL-Xpress driver. The problem is that a "Save Project" often <read
as "way too often"> will cause the computer to reboot (without saving the
project). We are looking at several possibilities, but have you heard of this
problem anywhere else with this hardware configuration (G2K486/Ati VLB/VG
DL-Xpress)? Any direction would be greatly appreciated.
BTW – we are also having problems loading DXF files by Entity locking up the
computer. RE: DXF by Entity problem, message #36479
Thanks,
Scott D.
Scott-
I'll leave it to jack to answer your question, but just to let you know the
Save Project debacle has happened to us also and we are using Tristars and
Diamond Speedstars.

Scott,
I had this same problem (very frustrating!) and it was fixed by downloading
apatch.zip from this forum(lib #9, what's new) and running it to patch some adi
code in the 3ds.exe file. Give it a shot – it worked for me (and others, too).
So far I have loaded the update #59 drivers and used apatch.zip and still have
the DXF import by Entity hang. Have you experienced this?
Don't know about the intermittent reboot during Save Project yet. It hasn't
happened since I updated the driver and used apatch.
Any other suggestions? Anyone? Anyone?

Scott,
what version of 3ds do you have. I think 2.01a may have fixed the dxf bug.
We're using 2.0 so that could be the problem. Do you remember if 2.01a is a
"free", "disk cost", or $$$ upgrade? Our primary Adesk dealer just lost their
tech support person and it's nearly impossible to get anyone on the phone.
They are supposed to call me back this afternoon, but just in case – any info
would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Scott D.
Scott,
I believe the upgrade is "free" but your dealer is allowed to add something for
the shipping & handling if he/she so chooses
Scott –
Most of the "random" rebooting problems may be resolved by running the APATCH
program. You may find it in library 9, or it's also inside of the SE215.ZIP
file.
We have also performed a number of enhancements to the 3DS driver since Sept,
which is the version that ATI is shipping with the board. ATI has new drivers
from us, I don't know when they will release them on the BBS.
We do offer very low cost upgrades to our retail driver for ATI customers who
want to use 3DS. Please call sales for full info, or just EMAIL your addr and
phone, well send full info and contact you. Thanks
