I'm not a dealer so I can't give you accurate pricing, but the Magni runs about $2000. Of course there are lower priced boards out there, but this is the one I know and have had nothing but success with (there are a few low end boards I've also failed miserably with). As for resolution and limitations, Everything is VGA. So… 256 colors is the max at any resolution. I've heard rumors of a SVGA to NTSC board but have never seen one. The main thing that makes some of the images look low quality is not the resolution but the number of colors on the screen (for smooth blending, gradations, etc.)

Brian, If you use an *external* VGA->NTSC converter, you can record 24bit images using an inexpensive SVGA board that has 24bit capabilities, like the Diamond Speedstar 24X. I believe the Magni hooks up to the cards feature connector and I don't think the feature connectors support 24bit. Steve Ormonde

Processing 24 bit images through an external VGA to NTSC converter is news to me! If you (or anyone) has some details as to who makes boxes or cards with this capability (and hopefully a review from someone who has used one) I would be very interested in hearing from you. -BDR
