I am interested in obtaining information in CD ROM-based magazines and/or disks that carry software, which can be used directly from the CD ROM or can be unlocked through some kind of encryption scheme. Any info is appreciated.. Tim

Tim, I suggest starting with the Nautilus section on this forum. They publish a magazine on CD-ROM that includes demo versions of commercial programs and shareware programs. I know of no disk that uses a code to unlock programs. There are some disks that use codes to unlock fonts and databases.

The process for unlocking software is exactly the same as anything else. The access software, given the proper authority code, permits access to an area of the disc not accessible before the pass-code was entered. Best – Rich

Tim, Nautilus is a multimedia magazine published on CD-ROM (PC & Mac versions). It also has a feature called "In an Instant Software" that involves encrypted programs on the disc that can be unlocked after you pay a fee via modem/credit card or whatever. Are you simply looking for s/w to buy off of CDs, or do you want to distribute something using this or a similar scheme? If the latter, contact me in email and I may be able to help you out. Katherine, Actually, I am interested in the latter scheme – distributing software on CD ROM that is fully complete except it must first be unlocked to be used. Can you tell me more about the Nautilus technique, or perhaps point me in teh right direction to get some data? I am not a programmer, butI do represent companies that are interested in pursuing the CD ROM software distribution route. Tim
