#Which CDROM?

Help!
This day and age it is very hard to make a decision regarding hardware
especially if you had no need for it in the past.
I have to make a decision regarding the following drives;
1) CD Technologies PortaDrive (Toshiba 3401)
2) MDI (Toshiba 3401)
3) PLI CDROM MS (Toshiba 3401B)
4) Apple CD300
What are your thoughts on the above drives, which one should I purchase.
The PLI is more expensive than the rest, the MDI and PortaDrive are the same
price and the Apple CD300 is the cheapest.
Has anyone had any hassles with any of the above drives?

I have been very satisfied with my CD Technology Toshiba 3331 (previous model);
at our Mac magazine we are playing with the Apple 300 and have had no problems
so far. Toss-up!

I share your confusion, Chris. I have been looking at the market for a while
now and am getting ready to make the purchase too. A big question is what do
you want to use it for? Personally, having Photo CD multi-session ability is an
important point for me. I know the new Apple drive is supposed to support that.
I read in MacWeek that a company called PIE was comning out with a portable
drive this summer that would hook directly up to a TV for Photo CD viewing and
then to your computer for CD-ROM business. Also, there are about 14 different
CD-ROM fromats out there, this year could be the one that finds us with one. I
really like Phillips CD-I, but don't want to get stuck with a shelf full of
drives that all do the same thing but in different formats. I know this doesn't
help you with a decesion to buy, but maybe some points you had not considered.
How much are Apple CD ROM's going for these days, if you happen to know.
I am thinking of getting one for my IBM. I hear it is really an up-to-date
SONY. Is it internal or external?
People report that it works fine with OS/2.

FWIW, here in our neighborhood (the Midwest) the Apple 300 CDROM drive is going
for about $550. It's an external drive at that price.

Thanks very much for the ballpark price on the Apple CD300. At that kind of
price, I guess I'll skip it for a cheaper drive.
I can get the older AppleCD's on sale. Would you have any idea what SONY model
numbers would be for the AppleCD and AppleCD+. I actually want to get a drive
for the IBM environment, where the SONY 6211 and 7211 are supported. Would the
AppleCD or AppleCD+ be equivalent to these?
Sony would not tell me.

I can't say with prcision which model number is which. However, here are a
