Hilary,
Angels aren't so slow in responding! By now, I hope that you have
gotten hold of the Trantor folks. They _don't_ return calls, but I managed
to get hold of the person in charge of sales at 1:00 pm PST. His name was
Dale Lawson, at (510) 770-1400 ext. 240. Once they take your order, they
ship it in a couple of days.
The docs are unclear about one thing, if you ever connect: in your
device line, you need to set /S:32 to get the maximum 64K buffer from RAM.
Apparently the /S refers to sectors of 2K each, so if you set the line to
/S:64, as seems logical, you are asking for a 128K buffer, which it doesn't
do. With the /S:64 setting, it goes back to the default buffer of 8K. This
will be clear enough, once you get it.
Lynne (no expert)
Dear Lynne…… you never fail in helping the lame and blind!
No, I have not yet been able to get in contact with the secretive TANTOR folk.
Now you have given me a name and fresh aspirations, I will arrange a method of
scaling the walls of their fortress.
Have been engaged in the mundane task of shovelling snow… and more snow! Also
in the secret recess of my mind have been contemplating the joy of taking this
computer apart and installing a 486DX 50 MHz motherboard. Can get one for
around $600.00 – or so it seems from the ads' in COMPUTER SHOPPER.
In the meantime……… HILARY.
Hillary, while you might not have been in touch with Trantor, Trantor has
been monitoring the MultiMedia section here (I think it's 6) and others have
asked there about similar questions.
You might try posting a query there and see what happens. For the record,
Trantor offers all sorts of drivers for all sorts of things–for extra fees.
Hilary,
On Prodigy, somebody reported that they got through to Trantor last Friday
(3/19/93), and that they should receive their upgrade by Monday or Tuesday of
this week. So they're still in business, if you can find anyone to take your
order.
Hope you are out from under the snow. I grew up in the Midwest (Omaha),
where they get at least one 12-inch snowfall each year. That's one of the
reasons why I live in California.<g>
Lynne
Dear Lynne.
At last I did get thru' to TRANTOR. Even got their FAX number – and
made an enquiry. Got a FAX back with details and price ($39). Have sent in my
order and now patiently wait. Incidently – TRANTOR have just been swallowed up
by some other company.
So…… a Californian! No wonder you can be so cheerful at this time
of year. Your snow of 12" in the MidWest was modest to the 24 – 30" we got here
in the Pittsburgh area a week ago. After seeing me snorting and puffing
shovelling snow, my daughter and her loathesome dentist husband were gleefully
watching, ready to put in that call to the Insurance man, should I falter or
faint. He wants a new X-Ray machine daughter tells me. Not this time!
Will let you know the latest troubles soon……
Lots of earthquakes to you <g>. HILARY.
