Jim, Hillary Rodham Clinton is a partner in a (Little Rock?) law firm that I believe she founded. She has achieved a _national_ reputation as an advocate for children's rights (which involves issues like those in the case of the Florida boy who "divorced" his mother). All this was done quite independently of Bill's politicking. I believe that the American Bar Association's Family Law Section invited her to speak at this summer's ABA meeting in San Francisco long before Bill won the Democratic nomination. Also, it's my understanding that Hillary changed her professional name from Hillary Rodham to Hillary Rodham Clinton to satisfy Arkansas critics who thought that a wife should take her husband's name. (Especially if he wanted to be governor.) Her legal reputation was established as Hillary Rodham, and it was quite a concession . . . Lynne

Actually, Lynne, Hillary had to resign from the firm when Bill was elected President. The First Lady, it seems, is covered under conflict of interest laws (and for good reason). However, it seems to me that if we're going to restrict outside activities of first spouses then we've got no kick coming when they are used in other capacities!
