#external vt100/vt220?

Does anyone know if there are any external terminal emulators available for
VT100/VT220 that I could use with TERM 3.1? The VT100 emulator that comes with
the program doesn't seem to work properly.

Instead of using Term 3.1 for VT100 you could use VLT which does an
excellent VT100 emulation.

The VT100 emulation in VLT is "ok", not excellent, at least that has been
my experience. The best test of a VT100 emulator is a Digital Equipment
Corp. VAX running the VMS operating system. VLT doesn't work so hot with
it.

Well that is the program I was using for VT100 but I had some problems when it
came to drawing some screens it put out characters instead of lines.

The "characters instead of lines" problem might be due to the font you
were using. An ANSI compatible font must be used. One comes with JRComm. I
use one called IBM.font. I use JRCOMM on two Amigas at work in a fairly
demanding situation on a UNIX system with no problems and good
performance. I tried VLT with less success but that might have been due to
my lack of experience with VLT.

VLT works fine for me in a VAX/VMS environment!! In fact, I avoid using
'real' VT-100's and VT-220's in favor of VLT on my 2000!

Do you use the ED/TPU editor? Also do you run ANU News? I had trouble
with VLT leaving remains of its cursor when it was asked to draw an
arrow.

No (ED/TPU) and no (ANU News). Perhaps I should have caveat'ed my answer to
reflect that I don't do a lot of graphics. However, I have done quite a bit
with that (stupid IMHO) "DEC 2 dimensional editor" (don't remember it's real
name at the moment). And, I have been impressed by VLT's ability to handle
partial screen scrolling regions OK. Also, it was the first Amiga terminal
emulator to handle the PaperChase (Medline Data Base) "is this a real VT-100
test" for me (it also fools VMS too of course).
I should add that I am using VLTjr Version 5.576 currently and I presume that
your experiences apply to that version (the latest) also. As you are probably
aware, "Willy L" is a SYSOP and regular participant in the BIX Amiga Forums.
Perhaps I can raise the question over there relative to "VLT leaving remains of
its cursor" and/or VLTs compatibility with the applications you mention.

Really I am not knocking VLT at all, just when I tested it did not do as I
needed it to do. I used ED/TPU and ANU-News.
I am quite sure the author supports his programs, I just happen to like
JrComm because it also has nice ANSI support, a good phonebook, and
excellent transfer protocols.

No argument here. IMHO that's ALWAYS a valid conclusion. I'll never accept
that there is only one best program of any type for everybody. Bill Gates be
darned 🙂
As I get time, will try to pursure the known (if any) incompatibilities and
will pass on anything I find.

Yes, I have used VLT and it does VT100 nicely but VLT doesn't have the features
that Term 3.1 has.

Maybe you could just swap out with a different terminal program when
the need arises to use VT100. Or do you need Term's features and VT100
all at once?
