#CD-ROM & SoundBlaster

I have recently acquired a brand new Mitsumi CD-ROM drive, with which I am
thrilled. It is suberb with my Photo CD images and was simple to install. .
.however. . I also have a Soundblaster II card.
Is there any way please of getting all my CDs (other than Photo CDs of course!)
to use the Soundblaster card, since there is no obvious direct link between the
two of them.

I have a Mitsumi LU005 CD-Rom Drive (internal). I also have a Soundblaster Pro
in the PC. The connection between the two is via an internal cable which has 4
wires. It plugs into the back of the CD rom drive and into a plug on the
SoundBlaster called CD-in. This plug is shown in the diagram in the
SoundBlaster Getting Started manual on page 6.
I used the standard cable supplied with the Drive. However, you do have to
rewire the cable at the SoundBlaster end. The wiring scheme for the CD-ROM
drive plug is Pin 1: Right Channel; Pin 2: Ground; Pin 3: Left Channel; and Pin
4: Ground. You can see this in the Mitsumi manual on page 12. The wiring
scheme for the SoundBlaster plug is Pin 1: Ground; Pin 2: Left Channel; Pin 3:
Ground; Pin 4: Right Channel. This wiring scheme is not listed in the
SoundBlaster Manual! I got it by calling Creative Technology in Milpitas
California. If you study the two schemes you can see they are mirror images of
each other – so the rewiring is quite simple: you just reverse the wires at
the SoundBlaster end in a mirror image pattern. This works fine for the
SoundBlaster Pro. Maybe the process is similar for the SoundBlaster 2? Even
though the two cards are different I… hope this helps. Jim C

Thanks very much for the info. . unfortunately, my Soundblaster card has NO
CD-in port. It has only a Line-In around the back so it's back to the drwaing
board!

The SB Pro's CD-in port is not on the back of the card. It is internal. I'm not
sure which model you have, but if you have the SB Pro check your documentation
for that port.
